qft. i take it off most of my 1 piece barrels. the kits i like to leave them on. both pieces line up better with the o rings on.

One piece barrels would be alright without the o-ring. Two piece barrels need both. The middle one keeps an air-tight seal and the thread side one keeps the barrel from vibrating loose and getting stuck. I kinda cold welded my back to my cocker one day when I forgot to put the o-ring back on. It was hell to get off 'cause of the friction and my front pneus were in the way.
