extreme metal isnt exactly a particular genre. more of a list of subgenres such as death and black metal. and since they arent exactly death metal... yeah. extreme metal is good stuff in some cases. goatwhore and necrophagist ftw

i can listen to necrophagist once in a while. wouldnt say theyre my favorite band, but theyre one of those bands that are fun to listen to once in a while. their bassist is a beast. do i dare ask you if you have ever listened to meshuggah or dying fetus?

I have heard both, and listen to neither. Just not my style.
My taste for metal is generally old school death metal, old school thrash, ballsy power metal, crushing doom/funeral doom, some psychedelic stuff, and really epic heavy metal. Though my favorite band is Suffocation, an old school brutal death metal band.

suffocation is good stuff. i enjoy metal of every shape, size, and color, but i mainly listen to power, new thrash, stoner, and prog with a sizable amount of death and black metal thrown in the mix
