Curves and other cool things

Anyone else finding that they enjoy using something on Photoshop to enhance their editing? I never really messed with Curves or used it much, but after learning a little bit about it and understanding it, I really like using it . Anyone else get that? They don't really use a tool, but then they do and they love using it? I just find it fascinating what experimenting with the program can really do (remember that new users!) and how it helps your skills develop

Here was a normal picture, no editing done to it:

And here's the image, edited. Only used Curves:

After making all the gun silhouettes for PbN, there is no other tool that I've used more than the lasso and magic wand. THANK GOD FOR THE MAGIC WAND!

thank u. There may be other effects it can give but the one in the OP can be made using hue and saturation. I use that and levels more than anything else

Your after picture looks a bit worse IMO.
Keep working with curves and make sure you picking your darkest spots and your brightest spots (highlights) and an actually grey midtone.

I find that Levels helps out alot when making over exposed pictures come out better and vise versa.

curves are great if you know how to use duo tone mode well, makes a hell of a pic especially with alot of light and a pretty good image of a person

Like I said, you are wrong.

Increasing only saturation in the photo will not give you the same affect as curves. It will bring out too many reds in the face, and it doesnt give anymore contrast to the photo.

Here is how it should be edited with just curves. Im not saying its done being edited, but you shouldnt go as drastic on the light/dark/colors.

I'm still working/messing with Curves and learning it, so I'm hopefully going to keep improving on it.

He was more of reffering to the "hue" slider which you didn't use.

A little bump of the contrast slider and hue slider to make it green would produce the same effect as the OP's pic.

In other words, you're wrong.

There are numerous ways to get the same effect for that photo. Levels, Curves, Channel Mixer, Photo Filter, HSL, Color Balance. There's not really a right or wrong way, just maybe a faster and more editable way for later use.
