Sushi Thread
What uppp.. Anyways im interested in checking out the different tastes from around and about, personally i'm here in Vancouver which is considered by many to have the best sushi outside of Japan, i've eaten at many many places, including tojo's:
http://www.tojos.com/
Blue Water Cafe/Raw Bar:
http://www.bluewatercafe.net/
which are wayyy up in the top ranked sushi spots in all of north america, Blue waters Sashimi starts at $8 a peice per for sashimi
after all these high end place i can definately appreciate the absolute freshness and quality they serve, but for the price it's too much to frequent, another place I go at least once a week is called Akasaka has amazing quality for the price, some pics:
a couple in-house specialty rolls pictured there, Washington roll with the Salmon overtop of a Cali roll, Crispy roll which is a double Dynamite roll [2X tempura prawns inside] covered in a crispy layer of tempura batter sprinked on top, and the Tiger roll, which is amazing and has a variety inside the roll, then Ebi on top with a slice of Avacado under it, heaven baby!
I'll continue to update this with pics as like i said, i eat jap food minimum 1 time a week, and almost always have my cam, so if i find some crazy rolls at different places i'll snap some pics and share
anyone got any of their own to share?

Pittsburgh roll.... ahi and salmon w/ fish sauce and cream cheese rolled cali style with black and gold roe 'round the outside.
Frankly, it looks alot cooler than it tastes, but it's unique.

I freakin love this stuff. Unfortunately, I can only get the good stuff when I'm in Cali or Hawaii. Texas doesn't offer anything fresh. I personally love a good plate of sashimi, but that stuff rapes your wallet. So worth it.

Same here. Being so far inland in podunk Rochester, it's hard to find decent sushi. I did find one place in town that's decent. It's a teensy place, but the food is good. The chef is actually Japanese unlike at most sushi restaurants here in Rochester.

For 2 tiny pieces of fish. I think not.
Think of it this way.
It takes probably about 5 orders of sashimi to get remotely full.
5x5= $25 Imo thats not cheap food.
Cheap food is a whopper at BK for $3.
But I guess its cheap for Calvin cause we all know he dine's on pure gold dishes.

Sushi isn't cheap. There's no comparison between good sushi and a whopper. They're completely different animals.
For well prepared, fresh hamachi nigiri, I'd pay that much.

Maybe it's a good thing that I don't live near a good sushi bar for that reason, otherwise I would be broke!

All you want for $20. That's just nuts.
My current favorite sushi place is a teensy restaurant in Orlando called Sushi Tomi. The menu is somewhat limited, but what they do have is excellent in freshness and preparation. I think the lunch special is around $12 for 5 pieces of nigari and one roll. And I thought that was a good deal. For $20 all you can eat, I'd have sushi once a week.

Orlando? Thats my neck of the woods. I eat at a place called Thai Am 2. It's good fresh and cheap. Or when I'm in Denver I always eats at the Sushi Den.
