No doubt! I was just curious on your method. Try throwing in some hashbrown style cut potatoes in the skillet with the tofu and spices. Serve with salsa or ketchup.

Been Vegetarian for a little over a year, trying to go Vegan, cut out EVERYTHING, it's just so hard since I'm deployed, but I'm doin good so far, I slip up and eat honey sometimes, but like I said, I'm TRYING to go vegan, I think it'll be easier when I'm stationed stateside again.

Lol @ "semi vegetarian." When I'm not inhaling slim jims and beef jerky I'm a "semi vegetarian" too.

I'm also "semi celibate" and "semi drug free."

There's no reason to knock or hate on people who aren't fully vegetarian. This isn't a competition....if you cut out pork and beef, it's one small step. If later you cut out dairy, that's another step.

(Now just don't make up for it by eating twice as much chicken.)

there's also no reason to toss around labels that dont apply to you. vegetarian and vegan have very specific definitions. If you dont meet the parameters of the definition, you shouldn't identify with those labels.

Wow. been a while since anyone's posted. Might as well bump and see if I can't jump start some conversation.

Backstory: I changed to a plant based diet for health reasons a little over a year ago, then about 3 months in started researching the environmental and ethical impacts of our consumption of animals. I'd say I became an "ethical vegan" shortly after and my world view has slowly evolved to now I am a full blown abolitionist and animal rights activist.

My old standby for when I'm not feeling too productive in the kitchen is 2 cups of rice, 2 dry cups (or 2 cans if I didn't plan ahead to soak and cook) of black beans, yellow onion, bell pepper, jalapeo. season with some, salt, pepper, worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. Maybe $5 and 45 minutes of prep will make a good 10 servings or so.

Anyone else got a go to recipe that they can make big quantities of on the cheap? I've done soups and stews a few times too, those are hit or miss for me.

You could always sautee up a package of crumbled tofu for chili's, stews, & pasta sauces. A can of tomatoes, some peppers & onions, & the seasonings of your choice works for me in a pinch.

Really? Your holier than thou attitude towards people who are making an effort to live a vege/vegan lifestyle is kinda gross. If people enjoy a veggie-burger that doesn't cause an animal harm, that makes them a '****ty vegan'?

You've made the right decision going vegan. Please be tactful in spreading the message.
