Helicopters?

Does anyone know what its like to fly a military helicopter?

Is it difficult, like is it touchy, or is it usually pretty easy to handle?

What is the training like, ect, any info would be awesome.

Idk know but i know its amazingly difficult. The other day my flight instructor said that if you thought flying a plane was easy then helicopters are difficult. He said its one of most difficult things.

If you want to join the forces to fly, you better prepare to become of the officer ranking. If you are only enlisted ranking you cant fly anything. If you want to become an officer though, you have to have a bach. degree. So just think about that as well.

I'm pretty sure you need a damm good application to be even considered for a WOCS. There not just going to accept some random person straight out of HS with a good asvab and FAST score.

Well yeah, I'm just saying you don't specifically have to be a commissioned officer to fly helos.

my neighbor is an electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin, and he took me to some place and let my try the Apache Longbow simulator there. it took me dozens of tries to get the stupid thing off the ground, but i couldn't keep air born very long. they changed the sensitivity of stuff and removed some of the variables for stable flight and i was able to fly around. he said they were capable of an inverted loop so i tried it. i made half the loop and the dove strait into the ground, which caused the simulator to crash. all in all it was very difficult, but I'm not a pilot. i got to sit in the gunner seat and play around with the HUD and a few of the weapon systems.

Yup

Army and the Navy, have more Helos than the Air Force anyway, hence the reason they have a need for WO's

Flying helis is difficult. At least everyone i know who is really into getting it as a job says so.

But it's a good bet. Here in Norway you get 12 years work and payment is from 160k to 200k's a year i think.

Having worked in the military helo program for years now, I can tell you flying a sim is NOTHING like having stick time in the real thing. The sims are made to help the jock at the stick become comfortable with pushing buttons and the basic operations of the aircraft itself.

Nothing beats true air time. I work with many pilots here, a great many of them are former SOA task force guys. They all agree, if you want to fly for fun, Army aviation is not the place

If you want to learn to fly a fun aircraft, fly the 47g or f airframes. All digital cockpits and very advanced. These 47s have to slow down to be escorted by apaches so that should tell you what they are like.

Got big nuts? Fly a AH-6 little bird gunship! Little bird Guns drivers have a high demand rate because the rate they drop peopel from the program for not being good enough is off the charts.

Myself, and that is IMHO...the apache is one of the biggest wastes of money the army has undertaken.

Sorry, got off on a rant. I willl dig out some of my pictuers of the CAAS equiped aircraft I work on here and get them posted tonight.

Without getting into details, they have become far more advanced over the last few years also in regards to ground support roles.

its kinda funny to see such an old design of a helicopter modified to be used in a modern role and it still be as effective as it is.
