Lightbulb Add tips for beginner players!

I just thought I'd create a thread with helpful beginner tips. I encourage anyone to add more tips since I will ms something and, as a beginner myself, I would like to learn along with this thread. Here goes my first few tips:

1. DON'T get tunnel vision. Even though you see a fairly clear shot at someone, don't advance toward/aim at them only. Remember that there are more people on the field that could be getting a clear shot at you too.

2. When snap shooting, keep your elbow in tight against your body so it doesn't pop out from behind the bunker before you and your gun do.

3. Also when snap shooting, work the whole bunker. Pop out high, low, left, right and even over the top if you can. Keeping this kind of variety in your game will translate to more versatility everywhere else.

4. Don't favor one hand. Practice shooting with both sides. I've tried serving tea but IMO nothing beats being ambidextrous with your marker.

5. When playing the dorito, lean your gun in toward the dorito depending on which side your on. This way your loader isn't exposed.

6. Always make sure your gun and loader are on before the game starts.

7. If something goes wrong with your gun or you're shot off the break, get to your bunker first before paint checking or having a look at your gun.

If youre playing in the back, COMMUNICATE. Be loud.

when shot out. yell, "OUT" so your teammates know you got out.

Most critical tip to remember is Keep Your Mask ON! A marker firing at 300 FPS (feet per second) means that the paintball is traveling at over 200 miles per hour. Trust me - your eyeball is not going to do well being struck by something moving at that speed!

Other tip I would give - after everyone has their mask on, fire 2-3 shots at a safe target to make sure that both your marker and hopper are turned on.

keep an awareness of everything around you from bunkers to opponents this is including your own team. if you don't know you're the last one left on your team it could end badly for you

thank you guy above me for the mask thing.. i would like to add BARREL BAG/PLUG ON AT ALL TIMES WHEN NOT ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.

Keep moving... Staying in the same bunker the whole game is a sure way to get in trouble.

Run as far as you can off the break, but without going to far ahead of your team.

Have a plan...a strategy. First bunkers, second moves, what lanes are being covered, who moves where when whoever gets out. Chaos and anarchy rarely win games.

Practice your form while you're at home so that you're focused on the game instead of focused on how you should hold your gun, playing tight, etc

if you run with a standard group of ppl a lot on the same fields try and setup communication every one knows and understands (ex. we look at the field as if it where a football field and say we see an enemy player in a bunker we yell 60 left or 60 right, or if a bunker looks like something such as our field has a map with a "jail" and we see an enemy go in we yell jail to advise we seen movement in it

Don't feel likes its a wast of paint to lane for a guy to run up to another bunker.

Footware: an important addition to any gearbag is a set of cleats. A decent pair can be had for $30-40. Hi-top recommended if your local field has a lot of holes and stuff to twist an ankle on. Also, difference between getting in/out of cover quickly or slipping and being easy target. Wear cleats!

Don't be afraid to take a chance. If you are quick enough and dont hesitate, 9/10 times rec players won't be quick enough to get an accurate shot. Hesitate =death.

Compression shorts/athletic underwear. Chaffing makes for a bad day.

Socks: bring at least 2 pair. Change your socks half way through the day, and a pair for the drive home. You'll be thankful you did! Dont sacrifice comfort!

Communicate with your team. Cover all angles to prevent flanks from opposing team. Do not stay in one spot; it's good to change your position. Don't be scared to get shot; play smart, play safe, and have fun!

Dont suck.

I kid. In all reality, alot of good ones have been covered. I do have a few for those who are interested in taking it to the next level.

-Physical fitness- Get yourself in shape. Round is not one of those shapes. Its ok to be fat. I'm fat, But I'm in shape for my size. Don't sit around eating pizza rolls, and cheetos. (mmmmmm cheetos) Get out and do something. Go for a run, or a brisk walk. Lord knows you don't want to be at your bunker, wheezing, and dying because your so out of shape, even walking to the fridge gets you winded. Also, STRETCH...I stretch before I go to bed...keeps you limber. I also stretch in the morning... Its a good habit, and can actually make you lose weight.

-Communication- Not only do you need to talk...but listen as well. Sure you can tell your team where that one guy in that they can't see, but what about the guy(s) that YOU can't see. Listen to what they relay to you....paint a mental picture in your head, adapt your play, Win.

-Keep your gear in tip-top working order- Clean your gun, Maintain it, if it doesn't work, get it fixed, or pay someone to fix it. You never want to go to a field, or an event, and end up having a gun thats just a paper weight, or going to give you fits all day. Keep on top of that ****. This is the same for your clothing too. If your pants are ripped and your going to be stepping on them, and tripping.....get new ones, or visit a seamstress.....or your grandmother. Sew that **** up.

-Being EVERYTHING your going to need, the first time- Lots of water, food, TYLENOL/advil/Ibprofine, athletic tape, first aid, ACE BANDAGES
Your going to get thirsty, hungry, and hurt. Not in that order....but its bound to happen. Always bring more water than you'll need, because your going to need it. Bring first aid. Band-aids, antibiotic ointent, Peroxide, Alcohol. If you fall and bust your ***....thats on you. LEGALY fields cant give you anything for it. Not even a tylenol....so bring that too. Ace bandages if you roll your ankle, or spring your wrist. Keep your health in mind, and also know when to walk away and go home. Dont risk your life for this sport. I actually lost a good friend becuase of a heat stroke.....at a paintball field, While playing. Worst day of my life.

-Prepare for the day, the day before- Eat a good dinner, Get sleep, Dont do anything dumb the day before. Drink alot of water the day before, or Gatorade. Last thing you need is to wake up all dry and dehydrated, go out and pull a hammy. Make sure you eat something good, that way you have plenty of energy, and dont have to rely on 2 monsters to get your *** moving. Its not good for you. at all. Sleep will help as well.

other than that...everything else is basically covered.
