frustration with local players
okay, so i was at my local field recently, i brought my 98 left feed sniper and my phantom.
I got three different groups of responses:
The first, the best and least typical:
Was respect and a bit of admiration, as well as some curiosity, i got a lot of asks to sell, and for reasonable respectful prices. I got a lot of its brave to play with that ect. I got this mainly from old school baller and woods ball players.
The second, most common and frustrating;
Was disrespect, trash talking, a lot of that thing isn't worth ****. I ignored this, as it is is easy to do. I got this mainly from speed-ballers, and tourney players, but not high level ones.
The third, by far the worst, and most angering:
I came back from playing in a long woodsball game using my phantom, i go back to my gearbag and my sniper is missing. Immediately i assume stolen, and start asking if anyone saw someone take it. A few people who fell into group 1 told me some kid said i gave him permission to use it. I look out on the speedball field and there is some 13 year old punk sitting in the deadbox with my rare left hand feed 98' sniper, this gun is my baby, and i put a lot of work into making it nice. I told the ref what was going on and he asked if i wanted assistance with the issue. I told him i could handle it, and i did.
i walk up to the kid, calmly and demand my gun, he say ya, the piece of **** sucks anyways, and he literally threw, yes threw it to me.
has anyone ever had this happen?

dude..... that sucks about your local crowd.
none of that would happen here because id say 20% of the people who play at my field have a pump and 90% of them are very respectful.
idk what id do if some kid did that to me.
good job on keeping your cool.

If anyone disrespects me, by the end of the day they'll know to keep their mouth shut because of all the time they spent in the deadbox courtesy of yours truly.
And for the record I would have killed that kid. If anyone took something out of my bag without my knowing/their asking, ****'s going down...hence why I keep my gearbag padlocked shut in the staging area, no joke. Sadly, people can seldom be trusted these days [pump players being the exception.]
Whereabouts do you play?

just wow....
This hasnt happened to me but just reading your post made me heat up big time.
I do get the "why would you want to play with it" or "your not going to survive out there with that". I just set them in their place.
I would look my stuff in my car and make the effort to work back for whatever gun I want to play with next.
Hope your local crowd comes around to the pump idea.

Ya i was pretty mad about the whole situation, fortunately most of the refs love me and i usually don't run into stuff like this because of that. I wash shocked i kept my cool, i actually have an anger management problem and have since i was about 4. I think what kept me calm was the fear that he had been so disrespectful so far he might even go far enough to harm my gun, it was kind of like a hostage situation.
btw i play at Maynard paintball in MA it is within biking distance of my house

Wow if someone took one of my markers out of my gear bag (let alone call it crap and throw it at me) I would play the next game on their team then accidently hit them with a rope of about 50 paintballs with my Wrath. Then I'd complain about them getting "in my lane". Optionally if you're on the other team just accidentally superman into their lower extremities or shoot them in the nads from 3 feet out.
But seriously though I've never played with a douche-bag that big at my local field so I guess you're just unlucky. Keep your chin-up.

Pump players get respect where I play. Sadly, I made fun of my friend when he bought his phantom, but I have seen the light now and Im just starting to jump into pump play.

I'm still in shock! I couldn't imagine that happening where I play! Kudos on not putting that kid in his place

Own them. They'll start respecting you.
But as for the kid who threw your sniper.....I'd have broken his jaw.

I only bring the markers that I or my close friends are going to use and the rest at home. I leave all my goodies like barrel backs and whatnot in the car. That really sucks man, I'd ask for the help of a ref any day. Wish they could have thrown the guy out of the field. I would have beat the s*** out of the kid. I mean its one thing to take it without permission but another to throw it on the floor!

You gas up the marker, put on the gloves, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field.. it doesn't matter that you failed a test, that your girlfriend broke up with you last night, or that you got a ticket on the way there... your world is right for the next couple hours, this is your heaven on earth.. live it.. love it..

I've never had an idiot take my gear and just play with it like that, but I have gotten the heckling a lot. Especially when we first started playing at Capital Edge in Sacramento. The first couple times we went out there, there was a few players who either played pump, or gave us the respect, but in general most were dicks. But after going a few times and consistently not only holding our own, but actually beating down some "advanced walk-ons", we started to earn a lot more respect.
On a side note, couple weeks ago Dave Baines (the owner of the field) was out there head reffing, and as he was splitting up the teams, I joked with him to give us more players, we're using pumps so we suck. He busted out laughing and was like yeah, sure, you think i was born yesterday?
Just a little funny comment from a pro that kind of made you feel good as a pump player.
