Well worth looking at. Adam is very very slowly getting better as the videos show. He has a long way to go.
Dan
EDIT-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Donations of money are accepted as well as gear to auction off. Contact Destructive Customs or Grandmaster D for more information.
In June of 2008, 34 year-old Adam Langlais had his life drastically changed forever by an extremely rare brain stem stroke that left him with Locked-In Syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locked_in_syndrome
Up until that time, Adam enjoyed life. Family and friends have always been of paramount importance to him, and he was a very physical guy.
Here he is, playing with his nephew last October:
Adam started playing paintball in 1990, and has been involved in everything from Big Games to playing in the World Cup with Ku, a team from Japan . He participated in the AKA/AGD Day at Fox 4 Paintball. He has always been an active and keen promoter of the sport, and has introduced dozens and dozens if not hundreds of people to paintball.
Until a few weeks ago, he was unable to do ANYTHING other than blink his eyes and move his eyes vertically since the stroke.
He cannot speak. He has a tube directly to his stomach providing nutrition. He has had a tracheostomy. The area where the stroke occurred is the Pons, which controls voluntary muscle movement.
He is still 100% mentally the same guy, just completely trapped inside his own body.
Here he is with his mom and sister-in-law:
In the past two weeks, he has made some small progress. He can now tap his left index finger, and is able to nod and shake his head for "yes" and "no". He can move his left foot a few inches. Even this much progress is nothing short of a miracle, and is MUCH more than the doctors had given us cause to hope for. In fact, many of the doctors are stunned at his progress, which had been deemed "impossible". So there is hope.
After extensive research, Adam and the family have decided on a stroke rehabilitation facility in Atlanta . Adam lives (and is currently hospitalized) in Massachusetts . While his health insurance will thankfully be covering 80% of his rehab, they will not cover transportation costs. As Adam is unable to embark on a normal commercial flight, he will have to travel to Atlanta by private charter with full-time medical attention. The cost of the one-way flight is $12,000.
Please post your bids in this thread. Do not waste your time reporting this thread. It is approved by PbNation. Improper posts will be removed and infractions given accordingly.
Sometimes we just have to do something for our fellow paintballers.
To help with this, Jared of Destructive Customs has stepped up with a most generous offer. He is willing to put not one but TWO custom milling jobs on the auction block. The two highest bidders will win their choice of milling to your Viking or Excalibur (you supply the marker), in any milling pattern that DC offers, INCLUDING full internal milling. This includes the NEW DC Excal milling pattern (which would also work on a Viking), the A.P.L., named in honor of Jared's friend, Adam Paul Langlais...
Normally, an auction of this type is not allowed on PbNation. However, given the extraordinary circumstances, PbN management has not only agreed to sanction it, but has also made a generous contribution to help with Adam's medical expenses.
So please bid. Not only will you be getting a great custom milling job, but also helping a stricken member of the AKA community. Please bid often, and bid high. Bidding will close at noon (EST), Sunday August 31, 2008
Thank you.
-Adam's brother, Grandmaster D
P.S. Anyone looking to help with a donation instead of bidding, we are accepting PayPal at info@destructivecustoms.com Other payment options are of course welcome; please PM me, Grandmaster D on PbNation for details.
Thanks
Jared @ DC
Wow that is unbelievable, I will keep you and your family in my prayers, and by all means, never lose hope. Jared, my hat goes off to you for making this auction happen.
Well i guess i'll start the bid at $132.65 just because thats all i have in paypal right now...once i get some more money in there i'll donate quite a bit and just use the rest to bid...
Hope everything goes will with his rehab and if he can't make it back to 100% at least make it so where he can live on his own again. Him and his family will be in my prayers
It's so hard to imagine what this would be like. The thought is frightening and chills me to the core. As soon as I have some dough in my paypal I'm turning it around towards this noble and worthy cause. I'd bid but I haven't the kind of money that I hope this auction raises. Lets get this man some help guys.

We will keep Adam and his family in our prayers. What a horrible and senselessthing to happen. At least he is aware. I know thats a mixed blessing but it would be even worse in complete darkenss. We will truly hope for the best.
Huge up to Jared for once again stepping up to the plate to aid those less fortunate. Im too flat to bid right now but Id like to make a donation. I sent you a Paypal Jared.
Great start guys!!! Keep in mind each one of these is worth over $750 in parts and labor! I'd love to see it go above that for each one. Besides the actual product and services you will have all that positive Karma!!
Thanks everyone,
Dan
I can say first hand the family will have to be in for the long haul.
My father in law before his passing, was a "high quad" (from the voice box down) as well from the same rare type stroke. Confined to a wheel chair for almost 11 years, even after the fact the doctors gave him less than 6 months.
We still have all his stuff here at the house.... handicap van , motorized wheel chair, amongst other things like the bed that is electronic that moves air around to prevent bed sores I will see what I can do to help them out.
Being in Texas logistics will be a issue.
