Rec Firing Modes

I was trying to think of a good mode to use for recreational and speedball play. I was thinking of using Ramping and starting at 5 BPS and then Ramping up to 10 BPS. Do you think that would be a good mode to use?

10 bps semi for rec ball and 12.5 for airball seems to work just fine

But yes, you have a good idea I suppose

What should the ramp start be? I don't want it to be at 3 because that is pretty low, I want to still be able to shoot semi at people but be able to ramp up to 10+ BPS if I need to shoot faster. I can shoot 10 BPS semi but I feel that it takes my focus away when playing semi.

Keep it at what it is then. Anything higher might take away from the purpose of ramping.

I think you're thinking too far into it.

I think if you're going to ramp to 10 bps, wouldn't it be easier to just leave it semi???

I use uncapped semi at all times unless event rules dictate otherwise. I can't stand to shoot a ramping gun; it's deplorable. With uncapped semi, I've got total control over my rof, and there is a situation for every different fire rate. For example, when putting somebody in, I don't need 10bps to do that. 2-5bps will do just fine. When somebody is running across the field at a distance, I'll go up to 14bps for that.

Generally my average rof per game is no more than 8-9 bps, even though I'm capable of 14.

I have to go with what loneassassin said, especially for rec ball, I much rather just use semi, I like knowing that my bps is me and not ramping, plus I rather have a bit more control on how much I am going through, but I keep my semi capped at 12.5 for rec-ball depending on if it is just me or friends/team there.

most rec fields wont let you use any form of ramping while playing rec unless you are on the speedball field......just leave it on semi. if/when you play speedball change it to PSP.

Alright, thats what I've been doing but some guys use ramping at my field and I feel as if I can't compete in a 1v1 because they are shooting so much more paint at me.

Practice, don't use ramping as a crutch.

This. Just work on your own skills, and let your fingers improve. If you "practice" with ramping, you're teaching yourself to just fire at the bare minimum in order to achieve the higher ROF.

Adjust your trigger; get it to where you feel is right for you, then just practice with the marker when you're watching TV, or browsing the forums, etc. This will train your fingers to your marker and help achieve the most consistent ROF.

What is the best way to setup a trigger? I've watched Mike's (TPB) videos on setting up the trigger for semi and I'm going to try that. Also, I have an Empire Axe if that helps any.

I don't have any experience with the Axe, but you should have a pre-travel and post-travel adjustments (meaning, the amount of space before you hit the switch, and the travel after you hit the switch).

These settings are really up to you and what you're comfortable with. Personally, I like more pre-travel than post-travel. You might like a little less pre-travel and a little more post-travel, but you won't find out until you start adjusting.

Ok, I just start adjusting and find what I can walk the fastest at/what I'm most comfortable at?

Pretty much. But only adjust one at a time. Start from the the back and move in, or whichever method you prefer in order to get to that "sweet spot" for you and the marker.

10bps or below on semi. That's what I'd recommend.
I play with mechanical 'Cockers or pump guns, so I don't really have that problem of what mode to use...it's however fast I can pull the trigger or pump.

You guys might hate this, but personally I just keep my gun on 12.5 ramp. Now, when I'm actually playing rec ball, the only time I ever ramp is when I'm running and gunning. The rest of the time, I'm just throwing 2 or 3 balls at a time to keep someone inside of a bunker. If you move up and have the angle on somebody, it doesn't matter if you're playing with a pump or shooting 15bps, it only takes a few shots at most to get them.
