An LS1 swap would be sex!
We'll probably be staying with a genI block though. A 383 stroker would be best, but it might just end up being a regular 350. Found a 383 for sale locally and it doesn't seem like a bad deal for $2500. It definitely needs new heads though. Here's a link. I also found a running 350 for $100 so I might go pick it up. I need to make sure it's a 4 bolt though. The casting number says that it's an either or, so I need to check.

Would you guys rather see a stock-ish looking and retro interior, or something all new without regard to what was in it originally?

Edit: found out that the engine is a 4 bolt main
Time to make a phone call!

Forget originality unless you care about the monetary value of the car. If it's a car for you and your dad to enjoy, do it however you want.

As for buying a 383, I would say just build your own. I spent 2500 on building mine and it's right around 400hp with weak heads. Pick up a 4-bolt block, send it to a machine shop... Eagle makes a nice, cheap stroker package that comes with everything you need for about 800

A twin turbo LS1 would be a dream!
I have seen a very clean job on one that was dropped into a z32. Very very sexy

Well, I addressed the starter squeak. Dropped the starter to find out that the teeth on the flexplate had been previously chewed to ****! Needless to say, I wasn't the happiest person in the world...
Unbolted the turbo350 (Which may or may not be built. It has a summit pan and a B&M ratchet shifter. I'll have to drive it to see ) and stuck a spare flex plate that a buddy of mine. Had the starter bench tested and then bolted it back on. Now she turns over like a dream, but I need to finish timing the engine really badly.

Then I can get back to the power steering pump and eventually on to the suspension. After the car is driveable it becomes time to go at the interior
I have a few pics to upload from todays work. I'll try to have them up tomorrow for you guys. Nothing too terribly interesting, but it's better than what I've been providing so far...

All of this work on a small block is starting to change my mind about wanting to stick the rebuilt l24 back into my 240Z! I think it might need more SBC
Maybe I'll stick the 307 into it after we build something else for the camaro down the road.
