Awesome, thanks a ton for getting that squared away. I forwarded that info to Greg and told him that the CAD should be done by the end of the week (SpitleBug willing). I might just send Greg the body once I get the solenoid, but since the CAD is going to be perfect I'm not really sure it will be necessary. Either way I gave him the option.

So...

Just curiouss....

Why wasn't the viking originally just a stacked tube gun?

I'm still on hydrocodone for my wisdom teeth removal, so please be gentle if it's painfully obvious and I just can't remember.

Basically they used the extra tube as an air repository.

What purpose did it serve??

Will the stacked tube design be less efficient or something?

I don't understand why it was there if it was superfluous and could have been done without.

That is undetermined at this point. It seems to me that the third tube comprises part of an adiabatic process. It may very well be attributed to part of it's amazing efficiency.

I think it also helped that they already had the extrusion designed for the Excal... and they used the same one for viking.

From th talks I've had I was given the impression that it was primarilly a choice made to maintain compatibility with past parts from the Excalibur (board, LPR, etc). Not to mention the body slugs too, which were the same.

Of course back in those days markers were big and honkin, and people wanted it that way

The good ole days...

As Ydna beat me to, it was just because they were compatible with pre-existing Excalibur parts.

Bad news. It's going to be *at least* until Saturday that I can get any decent work done on this. Both my jobs have stepped up quite a bit.

Yeah, but there is a difference between forced servitude and voluntary servitude.

Thanks, although I don't understand what's going to get ugly. I should hear from Greg in the next couple days about the frame.

I'm going to need about 3-4 bottom views and at least two C sized sheets to get everything stuff in there....

Update:

Page 1: Basic Merlin Extrusion - 100% Complete.
Page 2: Front/Back/Top Exterior Views - 70% Complete, X-section an issue.
Page 3: Pocket Diagrams - 95% Complete, Misc Thread and Drill Labeling.
Page 4: Side/Misc. Views - 20% Complete, Everything needs work.

Oh yeah and the pocket diagrams were uber retarded to get done. Hopefully I didn't miss any dimensions because that would make me furious.

Yeah well, we are just getting into the meat and potatoes of this thing. The gravy is yet to come.

I am going to have to put some small notations on each drawing for all the dimensions and notations. This will correspond to a drawing checklist that will need to be double checked with physical measurements using a micrometer/caliper. I will include the check list with the drawings (in both PDF and DWG format) so that all our bases are covered.

That sounds great, TastePaint and anyone else (who hasn't chimed in yet) that has a body will be able to do all the double checking.
