Prescription Dye I4's

Hey guys,

So on Sunday I was at a local metal show in Ft. Lauderdale, where I met a baller who has worse vision than me. Silly on my part, I didn't get his number. After we talked for a while, I found out that he had a custom dye I4's lense made for his prescription. On the right side of the lense it was the script for his right eye, and the same for the left etc. He said that the lense was split down the middle, and that it connected in the middle part with some kind of lock-in mechanism. If anyone has any information on how I can obtain one of these, I would be very grateful. So far, Stanton Optical (the place I go in Boca Raton) was of no help to me in my search for this. Thanks.

I have never seen any prescription lenses other than the old JT ones, which still sat behind the main lens.

I would think if any company actually got into making prescription lenses that actually replaced the mask lens it would have been big news on PBN.

So I would assume he found someone that could actually custom manufacture the lens one at a time. Which means vast sums of money that could not possible be worth it.

And even if he did find this genius lens maker, I would highly doubt they were tested and ANSI approved.

That is at the low end of what I would expect but still I would not consider worth the cost unless I was filthy rich.

I still think, if the lens is real, that it has not been ANSI tested.

My girlfriend was having issues with using glasses and contact wearing the i4s we just got her eyes fixed. Its only a couple grand generally to have your eyes corrected for life. Now she has 20/20 again. Her eye sight was atrocious btw. If your going to spend that kind of money why not just solve the problem all together.

The problem with doing a mask lens is that the extreme curve would distort the prescription. I had the same problem when I was buying my Rx sunglasses. Picking the right frames and lens combo so not to distort the Rx. I would call bull on his story. 600 buck I would be afraid to play 8 them one gog and it would be O V.

This is bull**** because no company would ever make custom lenses for an extreme sport such as paintball, because if that lens breaks or damages anything, it is an extreme liability. Second, the curvature of an i4 lens means that a proper convex or concave prescription is second to impossible. If you want to play paintball without glasses, buy use and throw contacts for all the weekends you go.

Well giving that paintball lenses don't last very long - buying a perscription 600$ lenses would be a waste of money. Apart from obvious bull$%^& that somebody even bothers to make something like that. The R&D and getting them ASTM tested would be a waste of money - how many players would buy a 600$ lense? I even doubt the company that would make them would brake even at 600$ price point.
