I have an XE with a Virtue board and Deadlywind Hollowpoint Bolt. Both things are great. Also I would look into getting a new barrel maybe but I would replace the bolt first. It really has an effect on efficiency.

A new gun. Seriously, don't throw money into your ion.

it's a low end, and smart parts recently went out of business, so if you start upgrading it and you mess something up, you won't be able to get stock parts easily. They were only $200 new anyway.

Just look at these reviews to find out what you might like.

Your not allowed to ask what gun to get that makes this a vs. thread.

Little Newb is right the Ion is fairly lowend. And yes it is very hard to find stock parts these days. But imo it is a fine gun and it gets the job done. I mean yes it is no mini, or G3, or PM, but it is fine for most purposes.

In terms of upgrading, the main reason is to correct some aspect of the gun that you don't like. If you have no problems with the gun I think the hollowpoint is a great place to start, it is light, it isn't too expensive, and it is just a good bolt with a lot of positives.

That is my advice, I mean I am not someone who think that my ion with like a couple hundred bucks put into it is better than a mini or any mid-to-high end gun. But I love it and have no problems with it.

Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to PM me

you can still get mag parts. and i can still get parts for my sheridan guns that havent been made for 20 years....if there is still a large group of people using the ion someone will continue making parts for them. and the automag actually has a huge following and parts are redialy available....

There will be parts for the ions, that's for sure.
Anyways the ion is a good gun and it will be good for most purposes like others have said. Unless your planning on going pro or Want to play local tourneys just stick with the ion. Nothing wrong with it. People are knowledgable in ions and you can always find someone to fix it. Hell you can even fix it if you know what you're doing
edit: I dint know much about the different types of ions but my fimiends all upgraded their feednecks, triggers, and on/offs. I heard a different bolt is also good to get.

just get a new barrel and thats it. save your money for something made out of metal for durability. you can get used guns for really cheap.

ions are great little guns, dont let people tell you otherwise.

however- if you ever plan on selling it in the future you might not want to put a whole lot of money into it. they have bad resale, that is why people write them off so quickly.

but i would buy a qev for it, its cheap and makes a big increase in effeciency than an aftermarket bolt. the bolt would be that absolute last thing i would upgrade.

buy a qev, a clamping feedneck like the q-lock, and maybe an on/off asa to make it easier taking the tank on and off. with those 3 upgrades, you wont have spent much money and you will have a nice little gun that will be able to do anything it needs to.

what new paintball guns do have good resell? no matter what gun it is if you put alot of money into it your most likely not going to get it back....especially since the companies keep turning out new guns every single year.

ego's... have buy far the best. i mean yeah once a new comes out, the previous goes down significantly. its like a car... once you drive it off the lot, that thing isn't what it was worth 30 feet ago.

Wtf? Ego's have an immensely ****ty resale. I can get an ego 9 for 700 bucks right now. The luxe has held the best resale, followed by the creed. The guns that don't have new models every year hold the best resale value.

I have to agree with the guys saying keep the Ion, It is a great starter gun. I had one that I just recently gave to brother because he is just starting to get into the sport. I liked that gun alot. And there are so many upgrades from new boards to barrels and everything between and every company makes stuff for the Ion. I would of kept my Ion if my brother did not need a gun and I have a EGO9, and a Mini. I also have upp'ed SP1 I keep around because they are good guns no matter how you feel about the company. And seeing this is the New Player area I would wait to buy something new until you see how much you play. If you do not play alot then you would just be wasting money anyways.

As far as upgrades i would get the qev, a bolt, a board and you should be able to do all this less than $200. An asa is nice but not performance inhancing and the rest is mostly cosmetic. Aftermarket barrels look nice but the Ion stock barrel is a nice barrel. Sorry for being so long winded guys.
