paintball marker in public view

i was wondering if anyone knew the legalities of a paintball marker in public view.

we want to run sliding/running drills at the park but its hard to get good form without marker in hand.. and i'd really like the team to get used to sliding with it in hand...

but im not sure if its legal to be holding a marker out in public

my plan was to possibly buy a cheap marker, gut the internals, drill holes in an old c02 tank and paint everything orange so it cant be confused with anything close to a firearm... but i'd rather just run with the markers we use..

anyone have experience with this situation?

if it helps, im from new jersey

one of our plans was taking a cheap imitation supersoaker and take the water bottle part of it and mounting it to the grip like a tank... and possibly filling the shell with epoxy for weight.

I would say just keep the barrel off possibly thats what really freaks out people and maybe no hopper but tank, and gun without a barrel I wouldn't expect anything much. But NJ laws are really strict where you can't play paintball in your backyard you have to be at a licensed facility. So I am not sure about that, which is weird considering how liberal NJ is with guns... I mean they sell bullet proof vest, now what would you need that for if your not a cop...

ehh i wouldnt risk it but the super soakers seems like a good idea to me but maybe spray paint them a bright color so it looks more like a toy and to make it realistic put some weight on it somehow but good luck finding a solution

Last time I checked a paintball marker wasn't a real firearm, and was less dangerous than a real firearm. So if you have the right to bear arms, that I would think you have the right to bear markers. And if you have the right to walk aroung public with a firearm in plain vew (not concealed) you have the right to carry around a marker in public.

While it is a public park it is private property subject to different rules, laws or guidelines. Although you do have the right to bare a firearm in plain sight you DO NOT have the right to take that firearm on or into a school, bank, or any store than wishes you not take it there. If the park has rules pertaining to having a firearm, airgun, or any other sort of projectile firing device he could be ticketed, fined, or arrested.

if they are not tippmanns, you should be alright. many people are starting to recognize our sport. i was running in my neighborhood yesterday and this old lady walkin' her dog was like "so are you running for football, cc, or what?" and i was like "no, i'm getting into shape for a paintball tournament." and she as like "oh, i've sen that on tv many times. looks like a demanding sport." and i know sarcasim but she was serious.

You really don't have to go THAT crazy. The best way this may work is wear your paintball gear with you. A lot of people will know you are practising for paintball. Just don't be shooting too much in the public park because people may panic. Just do your drills and you should be fine.

Definition of a fire arm from Merriam-Webster.com

"a weapon from which a shot is discharged by gunpowder —usually used of small arms"

Now paintball markers are not firearms due to the lack of gun powder involved.

But don't be a ******* run your drills with no air in your tank. That way there is no way to for a projectile to be projected.
