Hydrotesting in BC/Vancouver Area

GAH! Every dive shop, paintball store and fire protection store around either doesn't do hydro testing on paintball tanks or is unwilling/unable to do so on carbon wrapped units and will take steelies only.

Anyone around the GVRD or better yet, Fraser Valley have any good suggestions on where to go for rehydro? It seems like a huge waste for me to have to throw out a perfectly decent $200 tank.

Otherwise is there anywhere in Washington I can get it done - going across the border anyways

Last I heard the diveshop that was beside the old Badlands location did hydro-testing... Maybe call up the paintball shops, they might have an inside line.

They did a 68 4500 tank for me last year. Took them a little less than a week to get it done and pretty affordable.

I know that PBL has a company that will hydro paintball tanks but they need a certain number before they can send them off.
Give the local paintball shops a call. They should be able to give you the info you need.

Darn to little to late thanks though. I just brought it across the border and shipped it off from there. Panther had a possible 1+ month wait time as they don't send them off that frequently which is completely understandable. 24 hours, $17 bucks + shipping and good to go from hydrotester.com
Thanks for the suggustion though I'll pass it on to others looking to get rehydro'd

I got hydrotesting done in North Vancouver by DNA Fire Prevention, the owner is Dutch, I think his name is Andre and they only charge $10 for steel, quick turnaround (3 days)

All "fire safety" businesses who offer the service are not created equal. There are some out there in the Lower Mainland who commonly lose tanks, return the wrong tank when you go to pick it up, refuse to remove regulators, refuse to replace a regulator that they damage during removal or in one of the more extreme cases, simply put a sticker on it without doing any testing at all or just visual. Make sure you ask these sorts of questions should you choose to go direct to the testing company.

By going through any local store, you may wait longer and pay more but you will know that its been done correctly as a store will have weeded out the good testers from the rest. A store sends in quite a few tanks and is aware of the quality of service they will get from the testing agency. The price charged by a store oftens includes regulator removal and re-install, a free fill, and return shipping if needed. The profit margin is minimal.

Considering many ballers are completly clueless on how to repair or even clean their own gear, $40+ is a fair price when you also factor in the leg work and peace of mind.

I cant recall the name of the place i go, but it cost me about $18 and he does it in an afternoon.
That also includes taking off the regs.

And i know for a fact that a local store takes it to this guy, so the store does do quite a big markup and takes almost a month.

dive and sea sports in new west. 8th ave and mcbride boulevard. They are hands down the most knowledgeable when it comes to the paintball industry and its applications. Cost is $20, and turnaround time is a week max. I have had about 20 tanks done, and referred about 100 people. no problems.

they were located in the same plaza as a paintball store for 8 years, and service all our gear here at ambush/vpl

and FYI most places require you to remove your regulator prior to hydrotesting as you didnt pay for it, dive and sea will remove it for you for free.

skip the middleman and save yourself $20.
