i've found its hard to get tips when you hav to keep yelling at the retard walk-ons who won't keep their masks down on the field.

Don't yell, just severely punish the first one to do it and tell about all the eye injuries you've seen.

If you haven't, look up a few on the Interwebs.

tipping is probly getting less likely 'cuz of the economy the way it is. people dont want to spend as much money, so tips are slim.

That happened to me, and at the end of the day, i ended up with somewhere around $175. It totally made my day. Other than that occasion, i rarely get tipped, and im usually running from point a to b like no other. We average with partys of around 15 people, and all the way up to 75 (we've had bigger, i'm sure, but i have never had one). Most of the refs where i work are trying to get the owner to put "gratuity not included" on the front page of the paperwork, or in their conformation email, because after i clock out and go to leave, partys on occasion ask me how much we get from the money they paid, as in a tip. Most people think that we are like a waiter when they get a group of people eating over 8 or whatever. That idea seems to be the best way to secure a little gas money so you can get home, or maybe eat lunch the next day. But thats just me...

Yah the only time I get tipped when I ref is if I take time to help out a younger player and the parents give me anywhere from $5 to $20, or the same deal if I help someone fix something. Then private groups I usualy end up getting $20-$60, yet I have herd of tips upwards of $100. It just depends on the people but lets just say the reff REALY appreaciates getting tipped for a private group.

At the end of the day when the group turns in there rental gear the owner says, "hey guys if you can throw some money together for your ref we dont pay them much." (which is very true)

the last time i got a tip, it was from a group of walk-ons. they weren't new-new, but they were still new. anyway before each game i would help each side with pointers on how to snap, the best way to use each bunker, the names of the bunkers, etc. after the games i would hang around their table and discuss game strategies and whatnot, making sure to get invovled with what they were talking about and trying to be as friendly as possible.

some refs expect to be automatically be given tips and treated well. what they don't understand is that they are customers. customers like it when you are friendly and help whenever you can.

I generrally do not exspect to get tipped but when it happens (which is far in between) its usaully the people that like discussing the sport with you and had the best attitude the people that you would not exspect a tip out of but its usaully like 10 or 15 dollars whenever it happens to me.

only time i have gotten tipped is if a really rich group comes but i dont mind not getting a tip because the job is worth it and way more fun than a fast food joint or something like that

I like when i have to spend all day with a group and go through everything with them such as all the walking from field to field and the weather and also get shot all day and feel appreciated at the end of the day with a tip and some "thank yous". Its really nice getting tipped bc i usally take my tip money and put it in gas for my car to get back and fourth to work.
