Just FYI - If anyone is reading this thread - it's primarily for people interested in "outlaw", "woodsball", Big Games, and Scenarios. If you're a speedballer, check this other Central PA thread instead: http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3699240. The fellas over there are more the speedballer/hyperball/airball types, and you'll probably feel more at home there instead of here.

April 22nd, I'm not going to be playing - I'll be going to Spring Castle @ EMR on the 28th, so I usually don't play either the week before, or the week after.

Time for my monthly update - Paintball, in the summer heat of PA (90+% humidity, mid-90's temps - UGH!), can sometimes be a bit of a pain. If you're going out to the local fields, make sure to bring plenty of water, and keep it somewhere cool, so it remains drinkable when you need it. If you're playing for a full 6 or 8 hour day - a gallon per person should be enough. Just make sure not to over-do it.
Signs of heat exhaustion:
profuse sweating (or in extreme cases, no sweating at all - get help fast!)
weakness,
muscle cramps,
headache,
nausea and/or vomiting.
lightheadedness and/or fainting
low grade fever
On-the-Field First Aid Steps:
1.) COOL THE PERSON DOWN! - Make them stop their activity and then move from the hot environment to a cooler environment. The person may be placed in the shade or taken to an air conditioned environment (don't forget that cars have air conditioning). Clothes may be removed to help with air circulation across the body. Misting the skin with cool water also helps by stimulating evaporation and cooling the body.
2.) MAKE THEM DRINK WATER! - This may be a challenge if the person begins to suffer from nausea and vomiting. Small sips of water, a mouthful at a time, might be tolerated even if some vomiting persists. Sports drinks and other electrolyte replacement drinks are reasonable options, but only if water isn't available. Keep hydrating until the patient needs to urinate, a signal that their kidneys have sensed that there is enough fluid in the body, and it's 'safe' to excrete the excess.
3.) Other Symptoms - Muscles cramps and pain may be treated with over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
Have fun, and keep safe out there!

Thanks. I suffered a bout of heat exhaustion myself this past Sunday. It was scary, and I can only imagine what it would be like if someone were to experience that out at a remote paintball field somewhere. As the Boy Scouts say, "Be Prepared".

July Update - I will be attending a scenario game at GRC Paintball in Angelica, NY this upcoming weekend. I'll post the outcome of the event after I get back. Hopefully everyone is able to take advantage of the fairly decent weather, and get out and play some paintball!

Been awhile since I posted anything on here - sorry for the lapse folks! Back in August 2012, I became unemployed, and am still having difficulties finding new & gainful employment. For the time being, I'm working part-time at The Home Depot on the Carlisle Pike, primarily on weekends. Which cuts into my paintballin' time a good bit. I will be participating in the March Meltdown event at EMR at the end of March, playing the role of Rick Grimes. The scenario is based on the TV show & comic series, "The Walking Dead", and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm playing with the idea of showing up in costume, hat & all, and having a paintball pistol as my primary weapon, just as Rick does in the show. It also helps that I'm a rabid fan of both the comic, and the show, having seen every episode so far. In any case, if you want to partake in what is sure to be one of the best scenario games this year, get yourselves up to EMR at the tail end of March!

I might be headed to EMR also for the scenario, most likely it will be a last minute choice.
Good luck on the job search.

I have decided against going, saving some coin for scenarios later in the year. From everyone I've heard talking, this could be one of the better turn outs they have had in a while.
