Oh, I forgot that when a field shows up on your map you're obligated to drive there.

I should have thought of that..

You said that it chose things close to the limit, my point is that if something is 40 miles away, it should be in under 50 miles, not under 25. God damn. You put a ugly and pointless feature that no one really wants on the forum and are being sarcastic at someone when someone points out a flaw.

And if we are using it to guide Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, then what are we supposed to do?

New feature is worthless, can't even take over the world with it,
PBN you have failed me again!

I think I speak for the entire non-ASM population of PbNation when I say:

We appreciate your time and effort put into this field-finding tool. This precious addition to our beloved site is priceless and should only be available to our finest members, such as staff and ASM. It is my opinion that it should be removed for us "standard" members and should be forced upon members, similar as to how it is now, when ASM is purchased.

Or, you could just make it an ASM perk to have the ability to hide it, and I'd probably renew my subscription...

Please can we have an option to hide it? For those of us that are set with the field we are at now, it is an eyesore and completely unnecessary. It is also just one more thing to go wrong and cause server issues...

Monitor it's traffic after the initial 2-weeks. Take traffic levels for one week and I'd damn near guarantee you that it is barely used.

It's based on the USGS zipcode databases latitude and longitude information. As you know, a zipcode isn't a 1x1 square foot box on the ground, it can encompass varying amounts of space.

Short of mailing GPS tracking beacons out to all of our users, there's no quick and easy way for someone to locate fields and stores near them, so we wrote one.

Of course, there's always bound to be a bunch of luddites who are hesitant to any and all changes on the site, so it's not like we're totally unprepared when we do something and people complain about it.

It's not really "ugly" and it's not pointless. We wanted to get it out the door so we didn't write in the ability to toggle it on or off. Maybe we will, maybe we won't, but having people roll up in here 15 seconds after we introduce any functionality on the site calling it "gay", "pointless", "ugly", "useless" is pretty much the best way you can demotivate anyone. <Insert line about flies and honey>.

i use the dark red layout and the text in the zipcode area is hard to see, just wondering if anyone else has this problem?

other than that i like the idea...

all you ppl complaing about it...good lord you guys just dont like change do you...this will be the same as when the slide bar was taken away in 3 weeks no one will notice it and all will be back to "normal" (a very loose use of the term normal)

I'm pretty sure they thought of that when they decided to put it on every page of every section of this site....

Which is why I'm wondering why it's up there

I saw it when I clicked the logo (sicne you got rid of the forums tab ), I saw it and ussually a white box up there means that I am logged out. Tried it, didn't work. Now it works and I don't like where it is. It should be somewhere else or hidden. It will rarely be used and is terribly placed. It should be at the bottom of the forum where I will never see it again, since I will never use it again.

15 miles isn't a couple extra miles, and I am pretty sure that 40 is closer to 50 than 25 I think I learned that in what, 1st grade?

Ah, so it uses GPS? Does it determine distance via road or flight/direct?

If we are going to use that little sign, at least take off the tab. OR we can have the on and off. Much easier. I perfer to take away the sign. It just clutters it up.

Contrary to popular belief, PbNation isn't used just by registered users.

Someone could navigate their way onto PBN from a search engine such as google, and not realize that we had a fields and stores page, much less know that we had the ability to help them find fields and stores that were close to them.

So, we put it in the header so it's there regardless of what area of the site you're on. If you don't like it, you don't have to use it. It's not going to go away just because avid paintballers are already familiar with the fields in their area, since it wasn't really intended for them in the first place.

Like everyone else, an option to shut it off is requested.

No, it does not use GPS. It uses a database of zipcodes which has a latitude and longitude associated with each zipcode. I do some fancy math to figure out what zipcodes are geographically close to the zip the user inputs, and I find fields that are within range, regardless of what state they are in.

Great, when you type in pbnation.com and are not logged in with their preferences saved, they will see it. If they are a registered member and have it saved so they dont see it, even better. Everybody wins. Thanks alot.
