Yeah, I never invested in a lightweight boot. I either use my trail running shoes for light/dry hikes or my boots for heavy and/or wet hikes.

i honestly think i would be fine wearing them in most conditions, but my teacher wants me to get a little heavier boots. Ill take his word for it though, he does have a ton of experience on me, as well as being certified as a guide

The heavier boots also have better ankle support, which makes a huge difference in preventing injury and increasing your dexterity with a heavy pack for longer distances. Also, heavier boots are made to have less cushion, so your feet don't tire out as much or as soon.

Just bring those little packets of instant coffee.
From experience with boots, I recommend Asolo, La Sportiva, and Vasque. I love my Asolos, I know plenty of people who swear by Vasque, and I know a few people who are very pleased with their Sportivas. The problem is, you can't go into the store looking for a certain brand. I looked for Vasques, and ended up with a pair of Asolos with a perfect fit.

Wear Chacos, Tevas, North Face Reventazos or Gauleys, or Keens and call it good. I'm a minimalist when it comes to footwear. A light trail running shoe is as heavy as i'll go.
I have some Montrails that are pretty nice. I'm oretty sure 5.10 the rock climbing company is releasing some good looking shoes soon too.

I take it you don't do any long trips?
I'm thinking about picking up a pair of 5.10 street shoes.

this thread died.
I am going rock climbing saturday, and Ill be hiking this Sunday in the 5 ponds area, not exactly hiking but our teacher is just making us run through things we have to do this summer, pretty much finding camp, setting it up, tearing it down, hiking a little bit longer, and repeating again and again.

I should be bouldering today, but I'm just too tired.
So, you're actually taking a class on how to camp?

Oh, I gotcha. I think my friend is doing something similar. I'd love to do something like that outdoors, but I want to play doctor.
I haven't been on a long trip since this summer. I've been longing to go on another since then.

Really? That's cool. I think my friend is going all-out with a wilderness career of some sort.
My plan is to work in Africa for a summer for my uncle, and take a year off to study abroad in Europe, and hike while I'm there.

baller.
I have to fly out to colorado because I have to counsel this camp, its basically a leadership one for like 14-18 year olds. Me and my friend are road tripping it out there a week early to do some camping. Then they are paying for both our plane tickets back so we can get to WI and do our family camp/yearly boating/canooing/fishing trip.

Ha. My uncle owns a Safari company that operates in Africa and South America... among other places. I haven't asked him yet, but I want to see if I can work to pay for the trip. I have to go to Africa before I die.
