Bad, cause then you can't hear your teammates, nor can you hear the opposition.

It's also considered unsafe.

For example: When I used to help ref for local fields during casual rec. play, I once had to tackle a guy who was deaf in both ears due to not being able to hear that his opponent called himself out. The eliminated player yelled "out" loud to those all within proximity, but started to take off down field without plugging his marker, nor raising it - just took off in a hurry to leave the field. The one hard of hearing however, didn't understand. Now, his actions were very understandable, considering. Though, surely you get the idea

Plus, you're at risk in accidently over shooting a player to a point in really upsetting him/her, as well as possibly everyone around you because of it.

Bad Idea, unless you have the volume way down so you can still hear everything. But still, why would you risk breaking your Ipod/mp3 player? And is paintball boring to you enough that you need music to make it intense??

Its okay if you have like a small speaker attached somewhere so it is not plugged in your ears.

^but why? If some guy walked on the field with a "small speaker" attached to him, it would make me want to shoot him all the more...

I rer at an indoor field and we have musicplaying most of the time on the field, but you can still hear people yell... and the "head ref" always has a mic incase you cant hear a ref calling someone out.
I definately wouldn't recommend carrying your own music though, if anything it's going to be to your disadvantage.

When I used to ref if I'd seen someone with headphones in I'd tell them it was unsafe as they couldn't hear people call themselves out or my orders as a ref. No way I'd allow that on a field.
