Slowdive is without a doubt my favorite band in the genre. Some other ones worth listening to are Swervedriver, Lush, My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Chapterhouse, and Catherine Wheel. Cocteau Twins and The Jesus and Mary Chain were also some bands which pioneered the sound before it took on the status as an actual genre (and are worth checking out). I'm not too into a lot of the shoegaze revival going on right now, but one more recent band which I really enjoy is The Meeting Places.
