Am I the only one who thinks it would have been better had Cobain died a little earlier?

It wasnt even the lead singer, but the guitarist.
Am I the only one on the nation that doesnt think hawthorne heights deserved all the hate they got?

well if the hate came from peopel saying "good he is dead hahaha emo ***." then no they didnt deserve it.
it it was hate based on artistic merit, then yes they deserve it. they had mediocre generic music with a horrible vocalist and terrible mindless lyrics.
EDIT: but thats another topic for another time.
Nobody put down hendrix right, because even he knew he sucked at singing.

i thought we were talking about good lead singers not neccessarily any old singer. thats why i opt not to include hendrix but then again he is a bit better than cobain.

When I mentioned Hendrix I never said he was an amazing singer. I'm just following the thread title. It was a band that had their lead singer die to early, he also just happened to be better known for his guitar playing than his singing but still.

I still think Lane Staley of Alice n Chains should be added to that list...great band that had many albums left in them..so IMHO I think he died way too soon

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jerry Cantrell split from the group before he died?
I added some more to the list.
I think Bob Marley is an honorable mention because he's more popular now than he was alive. I added Layne Staley as an honorable mention because Alice in Chains is collaborating again.

yea this is a mostly dumb thread since very few of the singers here were actually good at singing, their attributes are all either as musicians or lyricists.
ok now looking back at the thread the only people wioth good voices are Robert Johnson, Jeff Buckley, and MAYBE Stevie Ray Vaughan

I never said they had to be good at singing, but just had to be lead singers of better bands.

Cantrell was well into pursuing his solo career though when Staley died. Chains was sorta "seperated" since 95, but never truly disbanded. Staley went off and did his own thing, coming back for a few reunions and compilations. Cantrell had been planning to go solo for a long while, as there were a few songs on Music Bank that were origionally supposed to be for Cantrell's solo stuff.
The fact that Cantrell's solo album came out merely months after Staley's death showed that he was working solo for a good while.
In a sense though, nobody really split, as they never officially disbanded.

You don't think Buddy Holly has a good voice? I think Van Zant has a pretty good voice too. And I personally like Bon Scott's, although I realize it's not good.

tbh his brother's a better singer (I guess Ronnie has more swagger/nostalgia/southern appeal whatever you wanna call it)
I guess Buddy's Voice is good for what he does, same goes for Valens
Bon has, how to say, certain "idiosnycracies" in his tone that I guess some people like
