What type of music do people in your area listen to?

I was just wondering how tastes in music differ around the country, or even around the world. Just a general genre or one example of an artist in the genre is enough. I'm doing a school project on how culture is different around the US. (yes I realize that small talk is a bad place to be researching but I thought I would give it a shot.)

I live in Alaska and the majority of people listen to rock/metal but it is still very easy to find someone who listens to just about any other genre too.

I don't get what's up with people saying, "Indie music" anymore. Some annoying friends of my girlfriend only like "Indie music"... to them, it ranges anywhere from Plain White T's to Aiden and **** like that. I came in at the end, but I remember when indie meant an independent label like Constellation Records, Kill Rock St*rs, or Peek-A-Boo and it just meant the listening of a wide variety of music. Not this whole, "Guy wearing designer cloths, and trying to sound like Elliott Smith" thing. Next thing they'll make is "Indie Movies" and this will encompass Donnie Darko and Little Miss Sunshine.

depends on the social structure. Like if you take a school for exmple, there is going to be a rather large diversity

But my friends, and nearly everyone I coorelate myself around, listens to Alt. rock & metal

Everything is listened to here in the durty south. You have some great musicians that come from GA from all different genres:

Rap - Outkast, Lil John, Bubba Sparxx, Jermain Dupree, and more
Rock - Marvelous 3 (Butch Walker), The Black Crows, Collective Soul, The Allman Brothers, and more
Metal - Sevendust...I thought there was more, but I can't think of any off the top of my head
R&B - James Brown, Little Richard, etc.
Country - Alan Jackson, Chet Atkins, Travis Tritt, etc.
Pop - REM, Family Force 5, The B-52s, etc.

Word. In Georgia you either listen to rap, country, or classic rock. Usually it's a mix of all three.

Now here in Pennsylvania, it seems like all the younger kids (late teens/early twenties) are into that scene/hardcore/emo whatever the **** it is. The real ****ty music that requires looking like a douchebag to listen to it.
