I'm partial to the valentine 1, it's like 400 though. Some people here would say the passport 8500 x50 is better.

for that kind of money, I would just get the valentine1, I just can't think of a reason why you wouldn't want that detector.

My dad just ordered the Passport 9500ix...just came out. It looks pretty damn cool I must say. If it works as well as I suspect I may have to sell my V1 and get the 9500ix. Apparently it gets speed cameras and red light cameras while constantly being updated via GPS.

That's because cobras are pieces of ****... If you want a cobra, spend at least 120 on it.

Oh I pass a ton of cops without my 120 dollar whistler going off too, it only works if the cops have their guns turned on. You have to remember, it's not a police detector, it's a radar detector. When cops are driving places instead of just patrolling, often they won't have their gun on unless they see someone doing something really stupid.

Lasers are tricky. Most detectors won't even pick them up because of where the police officer has to aim. In order for a LIDAR system to work, the operator has to be STATIONARY. Also, the operator has to aim for a reflective part of the vehicle, such as the license plate, headlights, or windshield. The only way the radar/lidar detector would pick it up is if the operator aimed it at the windshield (mostly, more expensive detectors can pick up LIDAR signals bouncing off other vehicles and such)

This is why laser jammers such as VEIL and plate blockers are popular, they are 50 state legal, and have almost a 100% success rate.
