Most impressive thing my v1 did was pick up Ka from 2.2 miles away. Given it was a horrendously flat straight highway, that's still pretty incredible. It also used to ALWAYS pick up laser, sometimes from almost a mile out. I miss it.

I've done research but you know how websites are.

What's the best radar detector less than 100? I don't care about all the bells and whistles, I just want a detector with long range that picks up as many if not all of the same signals that the more expensive ones do.

I'm used to dealing with my dads $500 dollars Escort. I don't know the name of it just the price. It doesn't have to be as powerful, and I wouldn't expect it to be, just close.

If that's not possible, what's the cheapest one I could get with my specs?

A pair of binoculars and a friend. You are not going to get anything decent for $100.

This is your best bet:

none. cheapest would be the escort 8500, nothing lower will do you any good, at all.

What's the best detector out there right now? It seems like it's the V1, but does it have GPS for red light cameras? If I had a dollar for every time some a-hole slowed down at an intersection right as the light's turning red..

Depends on what your needs are. If you want the best performance possible, I'd say the V1. If your worried about red light camera's then get this,

Cheetah C50. The escort 9500ix has a red light data base in it, but if your main concern is red light cameras the cheetah will own.

If your town is infested with tons of different Ka, then get the redline.

If you want the best detector possible for everything, (excluding red light cameras) get the V1.

Ok guys not going to lie I don't have a clue what any of you guys are talking about when it comes to radar detection equipment, so if you guys could dumb it down for me I'd appreciate it. Basically I got a wreckless speeding ticket yada yada whatever, I don't want another tho. So can you guys point me in the right direction for a 150-200 dollar detector? I just wana be able to detect speed traps an radar ect without all the bells an whistles that I read you guys talking about. So any explanation an direction is much appreciated.
Also I'm in VA, there illegal here would you guys say **** it orrr?

Bells and whistles...? In regards to spending $150-200, the best detector you can buy is the escort 8500ix, for that money. It's not the best, but it's in your price range. If you want the best of the best, get the V1. Since you're in Virginia, it would be in your favor to get a detector that is immune to spectre. Spectre is what cops use to see if cars have radar detectors. There is only two detectors that are immune to Spectre (Cannot be detected). The only one worth buying though is the escort redline. Also, if your serious about speeding, you're going to need a set of laser jammers. A Radar detector alone will not save you from laser. It would be in your favor to google how radar works, and the different type of radar

Uhmm... there's no such thing as an 8500ix.

My personal suggestion:
Bel Vector 995... It's VG-2 immune and ~$200

I'd like to get a V1, but my dad is against it. I'll be going to college next year with a 4.5 hour drive between home and school, so I may buy one anyway.

Is there a way I can convince him that it's a good purchase and having one doesn't mean I'm going to speed all the time and get a ticket? Or is he right?

Why the **** does he care?

My parents said No, I got one anyways and told them I'd rather be safe than sorry. They got over it.

Because at this point he pays my insurance and doesn't want to take the hit if I get a speeding ticket.
