New car is long since overdue

Its another versus thread, queue eye rolls and camaro suggestions. Imports only. Pushed my 525i too far and think she is a goner RIP. Looking for something around the 10k -15k mark (USD), coupe, daily driver summer car.

Suggestions I get a lot:
996- lot of people hate but have never owned one, with the new ims seal turns into a reliable daily driver
350z- you're a douche and gas milage is god awful, reliability is sub par
g35- reliable, very conventional, doesn't exactly pull heads though
miata- miata.
is300- lexus, conventional
c5
gen coupe
post suggestions would love to hear some opinions

996 - you're looking for the IMS BEARING, not just the seal. RMS is done at the same time, and while everything is out a clutch usually goes in. This service, if it hasn't been performed, is often between $7k and $9k.

The G35 and 350z are the same car.

The miata isn't even in the same price range. The lexus is boring as ****.

The Porsche is going to be significantly more money than I think you understand. Having it inspected by a dealership will go a long way to allaying some of your concerns, but be weary; Porsches are not inexpensive vehicles.

The G35/350z is a heavy car, isn't remarkably quick, and takes a good chunk of change to make any extra power. Tread lightly.

The Miata doesn't really belong on this list, and neither does the lexus.

Add a C5 or C6 Corvette depending on your budget. Driving a 996.1 and a C6 back to back is a joke, though, the C6 is a more fun car in every way.

IMO those two statements are inversely proportional. 10-15k means its used and therefore many people have seen/driven/rode in these vehicles. New, unusual, and flashy grabs heads. I personally like the G35 out of your options, and although its not remarkably quick or communicative to corner it is still enjoyable. Be warned the VQ35 is notorious for oil consumption.

You sound like a guy trying too hard to ball on a budget. Get the Miata, it is the least pretentious of all the options and usually has the least douche-tastic owners. Also the most fun too.

looking at the $15k mark the mileage would mostly be above 80 and at that point is ims failure typically being a premature failure a massive concern? at that mileage I would really only look at the upgraded seal but idk def wasn't my first option

Haven't looked at them much but will def add it to the list

Only on the 05-06 (Hi-Rev) motors. The 03-04 don't have that problem.

No, then it would just be an IMS failure. The bearing is still a concern, to the point where having it replaced is a recommended service, and it's failure is something to be wary of.

An IMS failure ALWAYS, 100% of the time, means needing a new engine.

You added budget information with your edit. DO NOT BUY A PORSCHE.

Any turbo mkiv supra you can get for $15k is a supra I would not want to own

Or it's a nonturbo supra, in which case, I just wouldn't wanna own it at all

you're aware they are literally in every way other than the trim the same car right? They use 99% of the same parts as well. The G is slightly longer and has a different interior. I have an 04 Z Roadster as a weekend car w/ 18k miles on it. No issues, decent gas mileage depending on how i drive it and nissan reliability has never been an issue.

Outside of that, if you are looking import in that price range, why not an older m3 or as stated a C5. You can't really get more bang for your buck than a c4/c5 vette.

cant comment on the others. But owned a lexus is300 for 10+yrs (until red light runner killed it) and never had a single issue outside normal service. If you want a nice reliable car that people still think costs alot because its lexus i'de go with that.

S2000. It has a little more balls than the Miata, it is basically just as fun to drive, and it is in your price range.

It's got 100hp more than the 1.8 miata lol. Not sure a 70% increase in power is only a little
