Obama's stance on the 2nd amendment

Just in case any of you had any doubts regarding Senator Obama's stance on 2nd Amendment rights. Politico.com has a story referencing a questionnaire that the Senator took as he sought a state Senate seat in 1996.

Quote:
“Do you support state legislation to … ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns?” asked one of the three dozen questions.

“Yes,” was Obama’s entire answer.
More here: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7312.html

From my cold dead hands obama...

First of all, that was 12 years ago when he was running for state legislature in Illinois, I don't blame him at all for that. Secondly, people are murdered every day in Chicago, a lot of it done with handguns. I dont think that Cape Cod, MA suffers from much gang violence, so im not sure you would understand.

Because you really need assault rifles to protect yourself.

Anyway he supports the right of the state to choose their individual gun laws, so worry more about your governor and state legislature taking guns away.

If you ban guns then all you are doing is taking the guns out of the law abiding people, the criminals will still find a way to get them.

if you read the rest of it

* Respect 2nd Amendment, but local gun bans ok. (Feb 2008)
* Provide some common-sense enforcement on gun licensing. (Jan 2008)
* 2000: cosponsored bill to limit purchases to 1 gun per month. (Oct 2007)
* Stop unscrupulous gun dealers dumping guns in cities. (Jul 2007)
* Keep guns out of inner cities--but also problem of morality. (Oct 2006)
* Ban semi-automatics, and more possession restrictions. (Jul 1998)
* Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)

Certainly seems he wants to go after my guns, and once again how are local bans ok? Don't I have the right to bear arms under the bill of rights in the constitution

So you need to buy multiple assault rifles per month from shady gun dealers in inner cities? Doesnt sound like any law abiding citizen to me.

He's not going to touch the issue of gun ownership.

Its not part of his platform, he doesn't have any concern about it whatsoever.

Your living in fantasy land if you think gun companies specifically have giant warehouses in the inner cities, or purposely stock their product in places where it can be stolen. Think, if someone steals something said company makes no money, therefore the sheer fact that your suggesting this is totally beyond me

If you've ever been through the licensing procedures for a handguns or rifles in a very gun controlish state, like Massachusetts you'd realize how incredibly tough it is already to get a license.

Hold corporations accountable? If I beat the hell out of you with a lousville slugger, should you then be able to sue them? If I run you over with a ford explorer, should ford be held liable? The vehicle/item/or gun is just a tool why should the companies he held liable?

I think every law abiding citizen should be able to own and carry a handgun concealed. Criminals should be afraid of robbing or harming any of these citizens.

I'm proudly not voting for Obama.

what do you think an assault rifle is? you are aware that they haven't been available to the public for decades and now must be purchased from individuals who already had them from before the ban, right?
