Let's do some good!
We have been holding onto some (6 maybe?) of our old Shatner Illusions (25 ever made, 24 k Gold Plated, shatner signed commemorating William Shatner’s first paintball game) trying to think of how we could use them to the best of their ability – these were never meant to make a profit, only to ever benefit other people. We have donated every penny that we have received for them to charities – we never even reimbursed ourselves for the cost of making them. We have been thinking that we would like to sell these markers now to raise money for wounded soldiers.
We are looking for the right venue to sell the remaining 6 or so that we have left to get the most money for them so that we could have the best results for the soldiers. How do you think that we could do in PBNation in raising money for one or two of these? Our thoughts have gone to auctions like Ebay, or running a fundraiser through the site with the largest single donor receiving the marker? Or some other creative way of handling this? We would want to keep with the spirit that the other markers have been sold in, and have 100% of the proceeds go to charity, with no “administrative costs” or other detractions from pure charity.
Please let me know your thoughts on the subject.
Thank you,
Steven Deam
(sorry for the new Username, forgot my password, and discontinued my old email address........ )
Please post any creative ideas here, we would like to do one last bit of good with these great, and very limited edition, paintball markers.

Castle Conquest Spring 2008 at EMR! It may prompt other vendors and dealers on hand to add to the cause as well, plus the Marines are there every year!

thanks for the ideas. and thanks for the PM's -- we got into the inventory closet and we have 7 of these left. Our goal now is to raise $25,000 through donations and marker sales. We are still solidifying plans, but I think it will come together that we will make this go through several events between now and the end of next summer.
A few people have mentioned that they cannot afford to bid on a marker, but would still like to help out. Donations will be accepted at some point, but we don't have a way of doing this yet. I will post information when we figure out how to handle donations.
As to our role in this, we are not after publicity for ourselves in any manner. We do want to be the money handlers to ensure that things are handled in the manner that they need to be, but other than that we are okay with other people getting the publicity for things, so long as everything is positive and everyone knows that this is to help the soldiers and is not to be used for anything other than that.
Charitable donation reciepts will be available as requested as well.

If you do stop by EMR sometime this season, Stock Class Paintball will be there every game and we'll help you out with at least a donation.
Thanks in advance for your efforts.

why not do a raffle for one at emr, that way people can donate and have a chance to win the marker. Makes it very easy for people to donate.

How about start an online raffle for at least one or two of the seven guns and then continue it at Castle Conquest XXV for the drawing after the castle is over.
That would give you five months to collect donations till the event. I figure you could set up a Paypal account where people could donate (buy) a raffle ticket for $5.00 each. We could market this raffle through the different web boards to increase awareness. After some one sent there money you could write their name and raffle number in this thread (or a separate one set up for the raffle) and send them an email with the number as well.
I figure that to collect $2,000, all it would take is 400 people to donate $5 each and within 5 months, that should be easy! Actually with 5 months to collect donations (sell tickets) I think we could raise close to $10,000 for these one or two raffled off guns.

Yeah but there is not as big of an attendance as a Castle event. If Pub Crawling is there (and they usually are) then you should be able to get a good amount for one.

Raffle ('s)! At various locations and venues. RTR (Remember the Ronin) does this by selling barrel covers as entries. They make a bundle each time, and sell barrel covers at the same time, just for a Buzzard. Who wouldn't buy a couple of raffle tics for $5. or $10 for a sigged gold pump Shat?

If I'm not mistaken (which hardly ever happens anymore) they look a little like this:
But since I never got mine, I can't be sure.

You'd have to raise $3572 per gun to make $25,000.
I wish I had that kind of cash to drop on a beautiful paintball marker.
:edit:
Anything going on with this yet?

To be honest, I never understood why these were made in the first place. For a small company, I'd imagine the initial cost of gold-plating these Illusions would be fairly steep, and with such little practical purpose, I think it could have been predicted that not many would want such a crazy-expensive Illusion. Anyone have any idea why these were produced?
Also, renewed the actionmarkers.org domain name, looking for someone to hand it off to... Sorry for the continuous spam.

eBay is always an option. Dave Loo's personal Desert Duck [while perhaps carrying with it a lot more on the rarity side of things] got up to around $8000 before it sold, for a good cause.

I know time is short, but perhaps one could make a return visit to CPX for the Living Legends game in a handful of weeks?
