The same thing can happen to anyone, anytime someone doesn't know the rules.

What about the situation where one player barrel-tags another, and even says "barrel tag," only to have the tagged player spin and shoot him close-up because he didn't read the rule stating that a barrel tag is an automatic elimination?

So, using your outlook, perhaps we should just eliminate barrel tags altogether so as to avoid misunderstandings that could result in a fight? There are others, too, like helicopters and such, that could cause confusion as well.

The "magic phrase" isn't "barrel tag." The magic phrase is "Know the rules." Ignorance of the rules is what leads to the problem in both of the above scenarios.

And that was the issue at EMR as well, since EMR as a field doesn't allow barrel tags but the scenario promoter (whose rules were being used) did.

Which illustrates the two options. If something creates issues you can either adjust things to to compensate and try to retain the cool things, or you can just take them out of the game.
