Just one second...
Can we stop insulting each other here? I'm reading through some threads, and there's a few people who consistently rely on insults as a means for debate. I don't consider ST: P as the shining example of what online debate should be, but we have a good base of people here who have no problem getting along and engaging in healthy debate.

I've got no qualms with some lighthearted ball breaking, but I'd really hope that nobody on here actually gets angry while debating. There is a big difference between throwing a few insults for the sake of humor and impact into a solid argument, and making insults the entirety of your argument. I like the vast majority of the regulars around here and enjoy reading your posts. Debate is simply that, debate. It shouldn't ever get to the point where you're getting personal about it because debate has never been about the people involved, but the subject matter and arguments made by said people. I'm guessing not much is going to change though...  |

Ball breaking is good, I do it all the time. But when you being to *hate* people over their beliefs, then that's where the problem begins, and reason ends. |

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I can be an A-hole a bit too frequently. In my own defense, I usually try to direct rude comments at people who deserve them. In any event, I'm with Swerve. This is an internet political discussion forum so there will always be a little bit of ball-breaking going on. I hope people aren't actually getting angry about the things posted here.
I'm not so egotistical to think that posting on this forum is going to change the way people think about important issues. However, if they see a couple of new perspectives on political issues, that's a good thing.

Its not like anyone who starts out an argument with 'I hate what you stand for' gets taken seriously anyway.
Its not hard to distinguish what's worth responding or ignoring.

Insult will always be a part of debates however I agree with everyone that says that we should use them only to add to the agrument and that they should be light hearted.
