A ratcheting system would require some sort of mechanical actuation, which might further complicate the design unless riot can find an ingenious way to make it work. Not to mention I don't think there'd be any room for the parts, unless it went inside the loader shells, which in turn could compromise the capacity.

i think sompthing like a mod'ed cyclone feed might work. idk, kinda looks like what your doing right now though.

I mentioned modding a cyclone feed almost a year ago when discussing a similar concept I had come up with, but that revolved around a different axis, much more similar to the PE rotary breach patent. Laying it down never really occured to me, and I never did much with it for fear of it being nothing more than a blender seeing as the paint naturally wanted to be in a direction other than the paddles would force it.

I still think it could work quite nicely (RiOT's Banshee with cyclone system, not mine), and coupled with a Nova style (or similar) valve train, you could have a very fast, insanely efficient, mechanical gun.

That's kind of how it works. The ram pushes on the gear to turn the wheel. The complication is that with the Banshee, indexing the wheel in the exact right spot is so crucial, that that aspect of the system needs to be very reliable. It'll shoot damn fast and damn smooth, it just liked to break paint because it wasn't properly lined up with the barrel.

That's the theory, and it's the only problem keeping me from doing a vid, that I've seen thus far, at least.

Couldn't you implement an alignment system, almost like a tab on the wheel to be detected by some sort of eye system, that alerts the board that it is aligned properly? Just a guess, but I'm thinking you want to stay away from an eye system.

That thought has occurred to me, but then it'd still need a "braking system" to slow the wheel's turn, rather than relying on the dwell to get it to the right spot. A mechanical indexing system is a much more solid way to do it.

Unless I can design the catch around the existing gear. I just thought of a way it might work, which I'll now begin investigating.
More like a pin with a rounded top and a much stiffer spring?

Oh no, I'm going overboard. It's going to be a forked sear, if you will, that will pinch one of the teeth on the gear under the feed wheel at rest. The leading edges of each of the 2 prongs on the fork will be ramped to allow the next tooth on the gear to be pushed in, but will NOT push it back out. It'll mean running a little higher LPR, but at least it should WORK.

Does your hopper use batteries or is it powered by a mechanical action? Also wouldn't it leak through the cracks around the fingers in the hopper and out of the threads of the barrel?

The loader is an empty shell, used to catch paint and dump it onto the bolt/feedwheel, which is a single piece. The wheel is turned 45 degrees (1 chamber) per shot via a ram/linkage pushing on a gear on the bottom of the wheel.

As for leaking, if you mean air, the feed wheel is as tight of a fit as I could get in that white housing without causing it to hinder the ability of the wheel to turn. I hand to sand down the housing to fit perfectly. The clear lexan piece is adjustable for how tight it is on the wheel to make sure no air leaks. Just like with any bolt that doesn't have o-rings, there'll be some leakage, but it's minor.

There is an MQ2 in the lower tube which provides the air that shoots the ball.

It's really pretty simple, if you know how a cocker works. In its current form, it works exactly like a cocker, except the ram turns the feed wheel instead of cycling a bolt. The advantage to this, is that as soon as the wheel turns, the ball is chambered and the next shot is ready to fire. That, and there's very, very little recipriating mass, so it shoots really smoothly.

If you don't mind me asking, why have you decided to reveal this all now? Did you get the patent? Are you sure you are pretty safe posting here?

Just curious with all this suddenness.

Enough of the general populace had figured it out on their own, so I figured anyone who had the means to try to patent it, or produce it, would have already figured it out, too. Besides, with The Wife out of work, I'm in no position to pursue it farther than prototype at present.

you should at least get the application process started, and if your wife finds a job you would at least have applied for a patent. this is my first post here but i have been keeping up with the thread since the beginning. good luck i hope your wife finds a job and you can get a patent on the design and make lots of money.

I doubt it, and if I remember correctly, Eclipse has a patent on something similar to that.
