I'm re-designing the drive system, again. What I'm working on now won't need a 2nd ram, and I wish I'd thought of it from the start. I may be able to "Go for the Gold" and embrace a design that doesn't use a solenoid at all, and drives the bolt system off of the MQ's exhaust air. That's my plan for the next version. This would require a custom made ram, too, but I'll figure out how much trouble it'll be before I decide which way to go.

LOL @ Spitlebug. I always KNEW he'd look like a weirdo!

For those that haven't seen my description of abusing the MQ valve to cycle the Banshee (or maybe even a FASOR cocker!), here is the basic idea...

I'd have to create a spacer to go between the valve body and the pilot, which would re-direct the air behind the poppet that seals it to a FASOR ram that is forward at rest. So, when the valve vents the air behind it, the ball would fire and the ram would retract. On a cocker, you'd have to find a way to delay both the bolt retracting, and the bolt's return, so as not to cause blowback or ball chopping. You'd also have to incorporate a mechanical anti-chop system, as eyes would be useless. In the Banshee... that'd be a 100% non-issue.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. No front block or LPR needed.

slick idea riot, that ram would need to be able to handle some high pressure or have a way of bleeding it off. you could always put an airway restriction on the exhaust side of the ram to delay the ram from returning and a restriction on the other side to delay it going forward. for the cocker version of course.

That's essentially what I was thinking. Make that cocker project #3!! (maybe)

1: Banshee
2: non-retarded aftermarket Marq engine.
3: Blockless, LPR-less, single-solenoid cocker!

For the Banshee, I think it'd greatly reduce the complexity and cycle time.

it would reduce complexity but with the proper board logic you could still make the banshee faster with a noid. just look how bob long shaved 5 ms off the total cycle time by using 4 eye to save the 5 ms of precharging the noid.

Do you have a thread anywhere on the Marq engine stuff?

No way, man. The ram would be at it's rearward position when the ball is done firing, for very close to it. So, all that'd have to happen, is for some near 300 psi air to push a ram 1" forward, and the cycle would be complete.

Using a solenoid, the solenoid wouldn't start trying to cycle the ram until the shot was complete. I'm thinking this idea could save as much as 10ms on the cycle time.

Grantis-
Nothing is posted yet on my Marq idea(s). It'd be a variation of what Yoda came up with for the FASOR challenge, though I did come up with the idea independently of knowing anyone else had ever thought of it/made the parts. The difference is I think I can make it fit a stock Marq engine with modification that is pretty minor (though irreversible and you'd never be able to use a stock front half again). The benefits, theoretically, would be efficiency, and significantly reduced LPR pressure/recoil.

I'll get an animation done some day, as it's hard to explain.

thats why I was saying good board logic with precharging the noid before it needs to start going forward.

Is this similar to the way an A5 cycles the cyclone?

By nature it'd have some relation, though implemented differently. As I recall, the cyclone is spring loaded forward at rest, my idea would be FASOR. Also, the A5 pulls the feed wheel back under air pressure, which would, because the exhaust air that pushes the bolt back/cycles the cyclone happens after the shot. On an MQ, the exhaust happens before the shot, which would be very problematic if the bolt system was cycled as soon as the valve exhausted. With the Banshee, the bolt system/ram would be in the "just actuated" position at rest. When exhausted, the spring would reset the ram, and the actuation would occur once the poppet re-sealed and the ram gets thrust forward.

I wonder if there would be enough residual pressure between an MQ exhaust and the ball to have it push forward a single acting spring return cylinder like on a cyclone feed. No custom spacers then.

the cyclone works so I dont see why not. with all the upgrades the cyclone will work in the 150-200 psi range and it uses the actual air that shoots the ball not blowback air like most people think (than you lord oldin).
