Rookie or Novice roster rules for 7-man?

I've had a few questions about roster rules and it seems as though the novice rules could steer teams away due to the fact that it allows a high number of d3 and higher players. With that being said the staff at Glory road and I want the roster classifications to garner the most interest out of players of all levels in the area.

Novice rules allow two d1, or four d2 or one semipro/pro player in addition to as many d3 and lower ranked players.

Rookie would allow three d3 or, two d2 or one d1 player in addition to as many d4 and d5 players as a team wishes.

Let me know what y'all think. The more teams the bigger the prize purse.

Novice for sure. This brings out the competition in the Carolinas. This tournament is good for lower ranked players to see what they can be. And gives them experience to take back to their lower divisions. Whether they get beat or not, the learning experience is well worth it.

As for novice players, it helps keep them on their toes for the following season if they play nationally. There aren't any local leagues for them. The NCXL is the perfect place for everyone in my opinion to grow, learn, and stay crisp.

Also, it might be worth it to do a two day deal possible. Rookie Saturday, Novice Sunday. And any player can play both days given rankings permit. That would benefit GRP hopefully with revenue, and give everyone what they want.

I think the roster rules should match the audience you are trying to attract. If you want to get newer players to form teams and play, the rank of players should reflect that.

If you want more experienced teams signing up, then novice rules should be fine. This will allow a wider range of players to attend.

One problem i have seen in the past, is you get brand new rookie players show up and get destroyed by more advanced players, therefore diminishing the enthusiasm to continue to do tournaments.

This past 7 man event at Glory Road was well managed, the refs were spot on and everyone who played from what I could tell had a great time. There were beginners to highly skilled players mixed in throughout. I didn't see anyone get "destroyed." Szep puts on a class event and Tony and all his staff do a great job bad weather and all. The audience that Szep's trying to court are paintball players in general. It's really too bad more players and teams didn't and don't participate in the NCXL. We will continue to play as long as Szep allows it. Final note, congrats to Blue Collar. You guys stepped up when it really counted.

That is good that the tourney was great. I never said or implied that it wasnt, or that it wasnt ran well. I have never played there, but wanted to play in the last one, but couldnt get enough players.
I was just answering the poll question in general. I have seen rookie tournaments allow highly ranked players to sandbag on teams and it just looked bad for the club hosting the event. I have seen many new beginning players lose interest in the tournament scene because of that reason.

The team that won was a bunch of d5 guys with a d3 guy who hasn't played in a year and a semipro guy who should really still be d1 if not for his team's pro consideration. The collision guys are good but I don't think any of them can single handedly win an event for any of these teams. Two collision players played, one's team got first and the other's team came last. The goal of allowing higher ranked players to play is to give them an option other than PSP, to help teams who truly need it (like d5 player stepping up against d3 and d4 players), and to help the higher ranked players become more involved in the local scene to grow the sport and to improve the talent as a whole... Call me old fashioned but back when I started the goal of mixing the talent pool at regionals was so that everyone could improve and go destroy at nationals when representing north Carolina.
