Thoughts on a new airball field in Orlando

Seeing how Paintball World has killed off it's X ball field last year, (with TKO, DOOM and such) OP not having a regulation size field, and EPIK closing a few months after Hypersports... Is there any interest on a new airball field going up in Orlando, or closer than CFP? -CFP is a great field and deserves praise, but let's be real, driving ~60 miles one-way is not really something everyone can do weekly-

There's more than a handful of divisional players in the Orlando area. And the lack of a field is one reason CFPS hasn't had enough D3 teams in over a year. (For many reasons, but the biggest is sandbagging)

So anyone have an opinion? Or is tournament paintball in Orlando dead?

I've thought about starting a field in Sanford. I figure it's close enough to Orlando, yet far enough to be able to get land/building for a lot cheaper. I've been putting together a business plan for it and will be looking for suitable locations next. If it all makes sense, I'll take out a loan and build it. For now, you're welcome to check out my field near new Smyrna.

I know it's still a bit of a drive, but you won't have trouble getting practice time in like at CFP. I give discounts to teams as well.

Best of luck in your venture, but keep in mind one important thought.

Why? Why did the whole field close, or why did they close the X-ball field?

If might not be for the reason you think and it might not be for the reason you want to hear. I would be willing to bet the reason wasn't because it was way to busy or making way too much money.

Advice for the thread: "how to open a paintball store"
NastyShock3r: hey guy's i live in miami i need help to open a paintball store can anyone help or can tell me what i need to do?
midstatepaintball: That's easy! Just push on the front door of the store if it says "push", or pull on the door if it says "pull".

I'm focusing on rentals. I know first hand how much a speedball field costs and how little is made from it compared to rentals and general rec players. I know with good marketing and a variety of products a new field can do well. But it is going to require focusing on what most fields don't, the ones holding the purses.

I'm not just in for the D3 guys, I'm in it for Florida tournament paintball. The scene sucks, it's everyone's fault.

Things are moving at a glacial rate right now, but at least moving. There might be news to come.

I would enjoy having an shall field in Orlando again. If you're serious about it, maybe look into working with Jimmy. You could use his location and the location where the xball field used to be. Just pay him rent and maintain the field. He would be in for that for sure. Much much cheaper than getting permits and land and drumming up business.

When do people got to OP that aren't just renters/inexperienced players? Went a few times to check it out and was very disappointed by the turnout.

Unfortunately it's simply the lowest profit type of paintball. There are higher costs associated with it and the least return on investment. It can be done well enough to turn a decent profit, but still nothing compared to rec/rental paintball. On top of spending more on the field, then you have regular maintenance. Ever seen a rec field gridded? Ever seen rec bunkers changed every few weeks? Plus look at the profit per case of paint. I'll use my fields prices so it is accurate numbers. If I sell one case of paint and entry to an airball player, I take in $65. If I sell one case of paint to four rental players, I take in $160. That's a huge difference. Most tournament players don't think about things like that nor do they consider how much an airball field really costs. That's not even getting into needing more employees for tournament paintball or being able to service fewer customers on one field. Unfortunately, most field owners are getting away from tournament style airball because of everything I've listed. I like it, that's why I have an airball field. If I expand into Orlando, I would like to have an airball field. But that's low on the priority list. The only way to change things would be if tournament players started paying $80+ a case for paint....
