Urban Assault- McDonald, PA - players thread

New thread since October-ball is over.

I just talked to them on the phone. She said call Friday (Nov 2nd, 2012) to see if Saturday's open field is outside or inside for open play. There will be open play this Saturday Nov 3rd.

New hours for OPEN PLAY (not a private party) after this weekend are....
- Saturday nights 8-12 p.m.
- Sunday 12-5 p.m.
- Wednesday 5-10 p.m.

More than likely, it will be indoor if it is incliment weather. Call 724-926-9000 to confirm the location.

I'm going to approach Philip about the 3 man tournaments they list on the webpage.

Would anyone want to play one to two Wednesdays a month from 5-10 p.m. at Urban Assault? Maybe we can get a league together so those that want to play can get together.

Post here if interested.

I used to play indoor , the airball part was small and they had a huge wooden area next to it. Is it still the same? I'm looking to start a new team for 2013 lmk if anyone is interested . Thanks

This Sunday, November 11th, the high temp will be 67 so I'm thinking the outdoor field will be open for open play. I'm calling to confirm.

The Steelers don't play till Monday night so I'm thinking about going back out for another open game day.

Anyone else interested?

why is the airball field not open to the public? seeings as that is the format of most major leagues. Also, to go along with that thought, if there is to be a 2/3man tournament in the near future ... would it be on the air field? just trying to get a heads up...

It will be on airball, 18 bunkers I think mix of sup air and knigman. Its not open to public because no one else will set it up/ maintain it after open play is over and the field itself is yet to be finished. Urban focuses primarily on recreational play an this also keeps tournament players away from the field by not having it open constantly.

why in the world would a field WANT to keep players away. I thought we were all playing for the same team here, ya know the team of making paintball a better sport for EVERYONE ... apparently I was way off.

Why spend the time to set up an air ball field and pay employee's to manage it when your demographic is not interested in it?

Not at all what I'm saying. It was stated that the airball field was not available to the public mainly to shy tournament players away from the field. My question is, if they were to open the airball field to the public regularly would the demographic change and open this field up to a wider audience of players. Or do they simply not want to cater to those players as a personal field owner choice

I believe it is more of a personal choice by the owner. Tournament players tend to have a bad attitude and when you demographic is primarily recreational players these select few can have a negative impact on your open play. We all know one bad apple can spoil the whole batch. I also would note that is the last reason I have listed. The first two are more probable answers, being it is due to maintaining the area as it is much more intensive then the scenario field meaning more dollars to employees. I personally am guessing as I am not an owner nor do I care to question him on this particular issue but am thrilled that he is allowing us to set up an indoor tournament. Also, on a side note by keeping the only availability too the tournament, he may hope to draw more guys seeking to play airball and keep them confined to a particular day. Again just guessing.

Many people don't know that Urban Assault was one of the first fields in Pittsburgh for paintball and one of the few to have indoor as well add outdoor fields. One can day "its doest have a big proshop or doesn't have this..." But for all intents and purposes, it had allot for fields and its one of the only fields in Pittsburgh to bring your own paint.

If I had to pay $80+ every time I wanted to play locally, I wouldn't be playing to often. Urban Assault has affordable prices at $35 for a field, rental, and all day air. Living Social had helped bring in more first time players and the fact they don't charge as high as other fields in PA makes this a great place for first timers and those looking for indoor and several outdoor fields.

If more people come to play, there will be more Urban Assault can offer.

Does anyone know for sure if they are open this wednesday before Thanksgiving for open play? You are, or not allowed to bring your own paint? Thanks

You are allowed to bring your own paint.

RedGOD, you seem to have a history with Urban Assault. You mention there are several BYOP fields in western PA but I know of none. Who else is out there?

Most places have as lower field pass and all day air cost, BUT you have to use field paint at the tune of $80 a case. Comparing Urban Assault to Three Rivers, cost wise, Urban Assault is cheaper. I'm not saying one is better over the other, but if you a kid on a budget or looking to play every once in awhile for under $100, Urban Assault fits the pocketbook.

Paint is another issue all together. There are countless threads on where to get the best for less. RPS Nightmare and JT Elite are both at or under $40 a case and IMO shot just fine. Big Ball is sold at the field for $80 a case. There are several options for everyone nearby of paint that's going to preform well at rec ball.

Last but not least, this is a players thread about Urban Assault. Its not a decline of Speedball or "did you know Wally at the field got busted for" thread. When I was 22 I got busted for pulling a float in a parade with a keg in the passenger seat. So what. Our past mistakes aren't needed to be listed in this thread.

The point is for players to mention when they might be coming out to Urban Assault, feedback for when they play there, and for upcoming events that might occur there. If I can get a babysitter, I'll beer there this Wednesday night. If not, everyone have a good time.
