Paintball Tournament

Hey Guys, I know next to nothing about paintball, but I am organizing events to be held at a baseball stadium outside of Pittsburgh, PA. The stadium has artificial grass, and I am thinking that a paintball tournament could be popular because there are not many fields in the area

Has anyone has played on a field such as this?
Does anyone have experience holding a paintball event/tournament?
Cleanup?
Wear and tear on field?

Any help is greatly appreciated

paintball on artificial grass or i guess astroturf is very common. many fields have turf fields.

as for hosting an event, you might have some luck if you asked here:

As someone who lives in Pittsburgh, I can tell you that there are quite a few local tournament fields in this area. I'm not sure what part of Pittsburgh you are talking about, but this is interesting to hear. If this is a nicer, higher end baseball stadium that is thinking of holding this event, things to strongly consider would be the cleanup/damage that could/will be done. You'll need to put holes in the turf to hold up the netting. Further more, the turf that is left after the event could and likely will be stained from all the paint. If this is a high end stadium, they'll likely want to replace that turf because it would not look professional in their facility. On top of that, even with netting, stray paintballs will still fly outside of the field and will make a mess on everything within range of the field (seats, scoreboards, facilities, etc).

In the long run, your operating costs are going to be extremely high to setup a temporary field inside a baseball stadium in order to run a single paintball event. Would it be worth it? That's the dice you roll.

Playing on turf is very common. Matter of fact the local paintball field, Steeltown, has artificial turf on their speedball field. The clean up is as easy as a hose and something to scoop up the shells of the paint.

I have hosted a tournament years ago but it was a throwback woods series, yes even before the UWL started the "back to the woods" competitive league.

What field are you looking at? If you have any questions let me know. I have been around for a very long time.

Thanks guys for the insight

hey fishballer, is there any way around cutting holes in the turf (like using sandbags)? And Cryptic says the paint can just be hosed off, which we could do often as the field has enough hoses from when it was a grass field

Actually I have heard of fields putting water inside the bottom of the speedball bunkers instead of using spikes to hold them down. Not sure how well this works with people sliding into them. I have seen sandbags used and they are an option as well.
