Most of the stuff I download in torrents is 320. Why did you buy something from itunes?

So who are these new guys?

I'm pretty sure most do. Especially black metal, blast death, death metal, etc.

John Longstreth uses triggers.

In my experience they're only nice when you use a natural tone, and the advantage of them is getting a cleaner sound out of your kicks.

It's especially useful when you're doing extremely technical blast segments.

God damn do I need to bring the trigger argument in here, too?

TRIGGERS DO NOT TAKE AWAY ANY SKILL FROM DRUMMING.

Quote:
A trigger pad is a sensor on a drum that produces a certain sound assigned from a sound module once the head has been struck. This device allows drummers to play at a faster rate without having to strike the drum hard, since at very rapid speeds it may become difficult for feet to move as quickly and with as much power.

Triggers are also used to add more definition to drum sounds and prevent bleeding between sound sources, making it easier to hear clearly every drum hit without rumble or excessive cymbals. An example is where very rapid bass drum hits become difficult to distinguish or even hear in the presence of a full band.
Quote:
Critics of triggers sometimes view their use as "cheating." Proponents of triggering note that a trigger pad requires a hit for each sound produced, and acts merely as a supplement to the contact caused by the drummer comparable to an electric guitar, where the sound produced by the instrument itself is not the sound heard by the listener. Proponents suggest that it is harder to play on a triggered drum due to the high note definition since every strike is heard, where less precise playing may be possible on an acoustic drum.

Critics also claim that triggers can be difficult to calibrate and setup since before calibration a trigger may either produce a series of notes from only one hit, only a couple of notes when many hits are made, or will produce no sound at all. Proponents say that triggers make setup easier when different acoustics at different venues are encountered.
It's JUST like using distortion on a guitar.

Like, I said. I thought they were something different.

He explained to me that they monitored one of the drums, and when that drum was struck, it would pull a sound from a bank and play that sound. Like an electronic drum kit. I basically thought that it was something that made your bass drum sound faster than it really was. I never took the time to actually research it and find out for myself. He's a drummer, and (I thought) he's pretty knowledgeable, so I thought I could trust him.

Here...Pete Sandoval, an amazing drummer, uses triggers:

Quote:
Interestingly, Sandoval had never used two bass drums before joining Morbid Angel. He had to practice frequently in order to get his feet up to speed, and recorded the Altars of Madness record within only a couple of months of joining Morbid Angel. According to Morbid Angel guitarist Trey Azagthoth, the band would occasionally walk in on Sandoval passed out on his drum set. After being woken up, he would immediately say, "Time to get back to work!"[1] After mastering double-bass usage in Morbid Angel, Sandoval also implemented them in Terrorizer's World Downfall album when the band briefly re-united to record it.

This is sad, I want to get back into paintball, but it's so damn expensive, and I don't have a job.

Hopefully next year when I have more free time...

Give me some metal to listen to, go!
