So you wannabe metalheads out there, you're about to get a crash course in what true metal is.
Let's start off with some visual therapy.
Now that we have that out of the way, let's discuss some more things.
Chuck Schuldiner was the man - learn about him.
No one is more metal than Bruce Dickinson.
JFAC/Waking the Cadaver/Through The Eyes of the Dead/*insert ****ty, generic metalcore/mall metal band name here* is not metal.
Some sections about real metal. Take notes.
Very aggressive metal. Good for making you want to rape innocent people and punt babies across the room. Known for extremely guttural vocals and insane drumming along with distorted guitar work. Lots of people for some reason think death metal takes no talent. WRONG. Try doing gutturals for an entire set. Try to play anything by a death metal band on the drums, or any instrument for that matter. Try to match the sheer technicality and speed of some of these bands. You can't, shut the hell up and go to your corner.
Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
Death - Symbolic
Origin - Echoes of Decimation
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Thrash is an off-shoot of punk+NWoBHM. Good **** in this genre, kids. Stuff that makes you want to headbang along with every note they play. Lots of raw aggression here as well. One of my favorite genres at the moment.
Slayer - Reign In Blood
Metallica - Kill 'Em All
Testament - The Gathering
Kreator - Enemy of God
MELODIC DEATH METAL
Basically death metal with melodic influences. Be it clean singing or a melodic interlude, if you want some brutality, but not the sheer brutality of balls to the wall death metal, this is where you need to be.
Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
In Flames - Whoracle
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Into Eternity - Buried In Oblivion
