If you dry fire without your hand, a squeegee or something else to provide back pressure, the force of the air can (though not everyone has experienced this) shoot the pillow off of the brass piece that screws into the bolt. It would then be shot out of the barrel.

It is advised that you just not dry fire without something to provide back pressure. Pillows are a cheap replacement, though, so you might as well buy an extra just in case. Many people have also been shooting just fine without a pillow in the bolt, though it is not ideal.

I actually shot my old Marq with the brass metal piece still attached and had no problems but that was just me.

I assume you still have the old shaft that screws in instead of the quik-release? I never used anything but BLUE and it's available at any hardware store.

You weren't chopping, your paint was too brittle and had nothing to cushion it so it broke from the force of the cycle. Get a new pillow.

I am getting a new pillow, i was just wondering if the balls were breaking because of the brass piece in the bolt and if i should take it ouy now or just wait for the replacement to come.

The brass piece does not come into contact with the ball.

you WERE chopping. you need to adjust your bolt forward without a pillow in it, because balls roll back into the void and you clip/chop the next ball in the stack because it's sitting lower.

Look at your backcap. There should be a hole for an Allen key. Adjust it there. Or get a new pillow.
