Best beginners woodsball gun?

I bought a JT Protium from Action Village for $35. It has caused me nothing but trouble. I am now looking to get a new gun, so I will not have to worry about it breaking down. I do not have much money to spend and I already have a gravity hopper and Co2 tank. I will be playing only woodsball. Everyone I play with have pretty awful guns, so I do not need anything with all the bells and whistles.

DON'T GET A TIPPMANN!
200$ a-5 isn't worth $80

You will probably want to look into a tippman series gun. For what you mentioned i would recommend the Tippmann 98 ACT. its pretty cheap (under $150 new). I would not really recommend the A-5 or even new X7 as they are a bit more than you need and cost a little more. how ever if its in your price range, go for it. Also, if you have a little more to spend BT Paintball makes some really nice, Good quality scenario/woodsball markers that you may want to check out.

i second H4Paintball.
any tippmann gun is gonna get the job done, as well as BT.
if you really want something that looks stellar, you can always go Araiakon (sp?) they do make some nice looking guns... havent seen alot of them around tho. probably cause i stick to speedball

lol...im not gonna lie...tippmanns may not be the best looking...or best performing...but they WILL work...not matter what you do to it...seriouslly...the 98c is probably THE most reliable marker out there....lol why do you think most places use the 98c as rentals?

Looks like the BT BT-4 or Tippmann 98c. Is the ACT for the Tippmann a must?

I curious to know why you would be against getting a Tippmann? im assuming a past experience, However there is just as many reasons not to get a kingman spyder or a piranha or any other gun even an Ego for that matter. There is no perfect marker, All will have flaws. If their was one, all the other companies would be out of business.

Honestly its all about personal opinion when it comes to those 2 guns. The ACT is not a must, you can purchase one without it but its a nice feature and really wont cost you any extra money.

ACT stands for Anti-Chop Technology. Basically if a ball gets caught halfway into the breach, the bolt will not crush the ball. saving you from cleaning out you gun in what would have been a chopped ball.

Here is a video/flash diagram of how it works:

they are not horrible but i never liked them at all and i look at the pricetag as a big joke. i'd probably get an a-5 only if they were $70 imho and a 98c for 50

tippmanns kick ***. JobForACowboy666 is Tippmanncist for some reason. they are reliable as tanks, and it would probably never break down on you. they will work great on CO2, even in cold weather. theyre not expensive, either. if you go used you can find a 98 for as low as $50 and an A-5 for like $125. great gun for woodsball, theres a reason when you go to scenarios you see way more tippmanns than anything else.

That is all personal preference. And as for the pricetag. A $200 spyder is cheaper to manufacture than the $200 a5.
