Is it worth getting a PS3 now?

I own a 360 and a Wii, I haven't gotten the PS3, as I haven't really seen any games worth it recently. Does the PS3 have a lot of exclusives going for it in 2008? Should I buy one now? Also on gamestop.com/ebgames.com only a 40gb model is listed for sale... have the larger models been discontinued?

This year is going to be the year PS3 shines. Many great exclusives coming out. I'd buy one in a few months, if I were you.

The 40gb and 80gb models are both being sold as of now, rumors of the 80gb being axe'd and a 120/160gb model are arising. It will most likely be more expensive, though, because they'll be using a 45nm CELL instead of the regular 65/90nm units.

Can you list some of those exclusives for me, also, what are the differences between the 40GB and the 80GB, besides harddrive space? Also, if needed can another SATA drive be installed in the PS3 for additional memory?

Games I personally am looking forward to:
GT5
SOCOM
Killzone 2
And a few others

80gb:
Larger HDD
4 USB ports
Card readers
~80% backwards compatibility with PS2 games

40gb
Smaller HDD
2 USB ports
No card readers
No backwards compatibility

Edit: Yes, any 2.5" SATA drive (Laptop drives, mostly) will work for upgrading all PS3 HDDs.

Can the PS3 have its HDD upgraded to any SATA HDD? If so, how does one do so while getting all the necessary data onto the new HDD? (and would this void warranty?)

Also, can an external SATA HDD be used in addition to the internal drive?

All of the Operating System and System Software is stored on flash memory inside the console, as opposed to on the HDD. You don't have to have any data on the new HDD, and Sony made it so that changing HDDs is still within warantee, it's even in the manual

Also, an external HDD can be connected via USB, and you can use it for Music/movies/pics, but you cannot save game data on it.

Honestly, I have my 60gb and I don't really need any more hard disk space. I barely have 15gb used. I stream whatever music I need from my computer to my PS3.

Well I was thinking of getting a 40GB, however I hear that on PSN, you can download classic psx games as well as new games, and demos ETC... wont that fill it up pretty fast? Can that sort of content be store don an external HDD?

No, only music/pics/vids on external hard drives.

Also, demos are only ~1gb, and that's a high average. Most are around 700mb. The PSX only supported CDs, which were, at max, ~800mb.

That's over 40 games/demos, probably closer to 60 or so.

Do you think a 40GB will be fine than?
Also, if I do decide to upgrade the HDD, will there be a way to transfer data to a computer or something, and than transfer it back to the new HDD?

Lol... im still not sure if im going to buy one... and i got into this discussion.

You can transfer the files you need from the PS3 (the only things that you can't just re-download are game saves) to your PC to back them up with a flash drive, or external hard disk.

Edit: 40gb is fine for anyone who doesn't need to play PS2 games.

It has HDMI, BlueRay Movie player, WiFi, and Bluetooth?
And in your opinion 40GB is more than enough, but as you said I can upgrade that without warranty troubles.

Memory Card Slots I probably won't even use, if I need too I can just use a USB card reader, and if i need more usb ports, use a USB hub.

All current consoles have:
HDMI
Blu-Ray
WiFi
Bluetooth

Many games are only 720P, but don't worry, they'll still look great. I'll try to get some pics later, maybe.

I run my PS3 in 1080P when I can, but in-game, 720P isn't really much different.

Thing is the TV in my room doesn't support 720p, just 1080i.

It must be old, I assume?

Also, if you have a 480/1080 only TV, then it will output in 480P, unfortunately.

1 year old...
If I must I can go to the 720P/1080P TV I have downstairs... However i'm too lazy for that so if my tv plays it on 480p i'll probably just settle for that most of the time, hopefully most games are 1080i though.

I really doubt it's only 1080i. Give me a link to your TV.
