Anybody else participate in any design competitions? Here is my background.
In college I am on my schools AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition team, and I am our pilot for this year. 2 years ago (my first year) we placed 17th at the competition with this huge airplane: http://www.terrabreak.org/hangar/purdue/2006_1.shtml
. It was one of the largest, but also one of the lightest, aircraft at the competition. Unloaded, the takeoff roll was nonexistent. Swinging a 20 inch carbon fiber prop with a Neu 1509/1.5Y motor I picked out (I was in charge of the power system). I'm the guy in the hat in the pics.
Last year we took 3rd (out of a field of 50) with this little BWB design: http://www.terrabreak.org/hangar/purdue/2007.shtml
A 22.75" span with a 10+ pound AUW results in a very unforgiving aircraft: Power off, the glide ratio is about 1/1.
