So I'm taking a photo class this term which brings me very far out of my element (im used to the math/science of engineering classes). Anyway, so far it has been going good and the assignments have been easy. However, our next assignment has me a little stumped on what/how to shoot. We are supposed to take pictures with an "Environmental Portrait" theme. The assignment says it the picture to essentially tell a story of the person in their "natural" environment.

Right now Im a bit confused on what and how to shoot this. The first thing that came to mind was essentially doing a "day-in-the-life" shoot and just following someone around. But I just dont see that being exactly what this assignment is trying to get at.

Anyone have any suggestions? tips?

Basically, an environmental portrait is a portrait of someone in a place that is relevant to that person.

a person in their room. a scientist in a lab. an artist in their studio. an athlete in the workout room/field. a musician in a practice space.

Think about just taking a portrait of someone with a background that tells something about them.

I googled "environmental portrait" and these are pretty decent examples.
The location and how they are dressed tell you who they are.

Todd all you had to do was text me broturkey. Like Greg said, it's just people in their place. Photograph a teacher in their classroom, go to a lunch truck outside UCross, snap the shots of ROTC at the armory. Is this photo110?
