Citations and outside references are HUGE lol. But more importantly they want you to focus on using the citations appropriately. You can't just cite a source and use it to argue a completely unrelated point. It's like me citing a source that shows how many Jews the Italians killed as opposed to the Nazis and using it to say that the Italians obviously weren't anti-semitic. Such a conclusion can't be drawn from those numbers alone. That kind of stuff heh heh.

Figures. Oh well, I'm good with using them appropriately, but I usually get slammed for the little stuff, and the quantity. I'll just have to care a little more when writing college papers.

Any idea what you usually write about in Writing classes?

Eh it depends on the professor.

I haven't taken any "Writing" classes. I don't have an English requirement because of my AP English credit. The only writing I've been doing is History, Sociology, Religion, and Philosophy. You of course get very specific in those classes. In a generalized English Writing class I would assume you pick a topic and expound on it as best you can. I think the structure is more important than the content in those classes as opposed to the writing I've been doing.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I'll get on the AP english test, but the honors program requires a honors writing class, so meh. If it helps me get into med school, I'm ok with it.

That's always a good thing. Teachers that want you to write what they want to "hear" are idiots. They became a teacher because they couldn't do anything else. The ones that actually enjoy teaching are open minded.

Oh, definitely. One of my best teachers always said that teachers are never supposed to preach, only present information and tools in which to process it. He's also the same teacher that sparked my interest in philosophy.

fair enough. Then he probably won't know enough/expect you to know enough to realize that thesis statement, in the context of the actual evolution of philosophical thinking is, to put it lightly, wrong.

Stupid English teacher. She's ALWAYS marking off for not enough citations, and too much of my own work.... I finally listen to her, and guess what? Too many citations, and not enough of my own work! Although, I think it has more to do with her not understanding it and needing everything to be spelled out for her. You should see how many times she wrote "you lost me" "explain" ... etc. Time to dumb it down.

Lol. Seeing "you lost me" from a teacher isn't a good sign. I get scared when I see that. It's either the teacher being a moron or the writer making no sense. Bring it to someone else to read to make sure which one it is lol.

Booya! I got an A on that paper. She said something along the lines of "I thought I would have been lost on he subject, but you did a very good job presenting and explaining everything."
