Out of the list that you posted, Clive Owen is probably the best fit. However, I'm quite positive that he wouldn't do as well as Mark with the acting aspect. Good acting > authentic look.

Also, Ray Liotta plays a hilarious *******, but not necessarily a deeply pained individual.

I really liked him in Children Of Men.

And Ray Liotta seems like he'd be a good fit cause he has the detective look, but rough and mentally sick, like he goes home each night and downs a bottle, or pops pills.

I guess we won't really know until we see the movie. I'm looking forward to it. I think the biggest thing that is going to bother me is the voice. Max Payne's voice in the games had a lot to do with how people perceived him. I'm not worried about the acting/looks of the character at all, just the voice.

No...they're not. Some of them are good, but they are not even close to the best.

I think Mark Wahlberg was a good decision, although I still don't have much hope for this movie. The game kicked ***, but I don't see this being too good....hopefully I'm proved wrong though.

Mark Wahlberg will do fine. Keanu Reeves isn't rugged enough for the role.

I like how there is this discussion going on about Marky not being right for the part, all the while everyone overlooks the fact that Ludacris is playing Jim Bravura.

Somehow Wahlberg movies always seem to turn out decent. I don't particularly like him as an actor, he pretty much always plays the quiet, nice guy, bad ***. Yet time and again I still end up liking the movie.

I don't expect this to be different, it may just be that he's really good at picking scripts, but he usually pulls of his roles well.

Title of the movie is Max Payne, not Jim Bravura

If Max Payne is a letdown (which I doubt), he has two more movies coming soon that should be pretty good. He's getting a lot of work for a reason.

That's not the point. Wahlberg isn't the only important character in the movie.

They need someone with more of a smokers voice for the role. but Marky Mark has gotten the badass aspect of the movie down

In the trailer you can tell that he was trying to make his voice sound like that. I don't guess it's a huge deal, but the voice in the game IS the voice of Max Payne.

^^^Same. I'm wondering how much I'm gonna need to remember from the game to make the movie make sense. It's been so long since I've played it.

As has been speculated, the Valkyries are probably hallucinations from the drug. V or Valkyr.

Max Payne is drugged at one point in the game if you remember. Not to mention all the junkies running around.
