think they will stick the bullet time in there? part of me wants it there to see how they do it. but at the same time, so many half-*** movies tried to do bullet time lately and everytime it gets compared to the matrix.

I think they pretty much have to. It's a huge part of the game. I think that with what you said, it would more likely be slow mo rather than focusing soley on "bullet time".

One of the biggest aspects of the game is the bullet-time feature, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to incorporate it in some way. However, the best thing about Max Payne is the noir driven story, which made it a very unique and entertaining game...

For this movie to work it's going to have to be dark, bloody, and violent. It's going to have to look really gritty. And the gunfights are going to have to be spot on or it will ruin the feel of the movie. It's going to be tough to pull this off because it really needs to have some sort of bullet time action and that's going to be hard to pull off without it getting a matrix-wannabe feel.

I can only hope things go well. I've said for years that Max Payne would make the perfect video game movie because it's so story driven.

If you want him to play meathead mongoloids from south boston, then by all means, hire him. But if you want him to portray a character who broods cynical desperation, then get someone else...

Short and stocky is pretty much what the guy in the video game looked like. he wasn't some 7+ft. basketball player. He was an every day muffled up white cop w/ a decent farmer like build.

I'll go halfs with you on his voice. It isn't quite as groggy/deep as the voice over in the game, but I think (visually) he's fine. No, I haven't seen that full out rage/revenge like look in his eyes, but for an all around actor in full filling the role, (as a whole) he's a good choice.

I mean, who else would you choose? Sure, it would be better to hear his thoughts identical to the game, but that wouldn't be right for a movie at all - two voices (in tone) making up one character makes no sense. Or, ALL thoughts (dialogue wise) and nothing else would be overkill IMO.

No bullet time, that will make it cheap.

There can't be any action movie style gunfights. It can't be an action movie. If Training Day, Narc, and Sin City had a threesome. Stick to the story, but don't jump around like most video game movies.

It has to be a very dark movie.

Oh and Halo Sucks...

You can't avoid bullet time gunfights. It was a central part of the game play. While it was very story driven the gunfights themselves were an epic and crucial part of the game. Max Payne without it's gunfights is just another dark cop drama. Your comparison to sin city and training day was good but this movie just wouldn't be Max Payne without proper stylized violence. It doesn't have to look cheap if it's done right. It needs to stick to it's story but have at least a few intense shootouts. Max Payne was so feared by most of the criminals for a reason.

Yeah, the bullet time was integral to the gameplay. It was not integral to the story(though I never finished the game).

We will not be playing this movie. That was added to make a fun game. I know in the manual it says "we don't know why Max can do it, but he does"

I read a comment on IGN that said The guy from The Wire would be good, I agree. Dominic West is perfect.

I've never played the game, but after looking at pictures I can see Dominic West in the role. I don't think Mark Wahlberg would be bad, and he'll bring people into the theater.

i also believe that after the first gunfight in the game he says something like "when you're in gunfight, time just seems to slow down"

something along those lines, i know i just butchered what he just said. but i havent played the game in years

What "manual" are you guys referring too? Sounds like you two are referring to the manual provided by the game itself - which makes no sense to me what so ever when applying in-game lines.

How does it make no sense?

The people that made the game said "we don't know why Max can do it, but he does"

I don't think it explains the bullet time any further except saying what bam put.

Unless I'm still mis-understanding what you guys are getting at, bullet time was originally implemented to provide a more creative action experience to the actual player him/her self. It wasn't the speed in which the character himself was litterally moving at, nor (as previously stated) was it apart of the storyline in any way shape or form.

Or in otherwords, an in-game feature directed at nothing more but to enhance with any users gaming experience making for a more "hollywood" impression.

So, it kind of sounds as if you two are discussing how this character guy was able to magically float through the air at such a decreased flying rate, implied through the actual plot itself?
