GOP Debate 1-24-08

This is the second debate I've watched in full, and I have to say I am very impressed. The candidates are being asked tough questions, the crowd was asked (politely) to not applaud or boo, (which they haven't for the most part) and each candidate is being given ample time to speak. Props to MSNBC for putting on such a great debate.

So what do you guys think of it, who do you think won, and who all watched it?

I've never heard the phrase "borrowing from China" so many times before not coming out of Ron Paul's mouth. They're really warming up to his ideas. Except no one laughs when its Huckabee or McCain saying it.

We all know damn well that the laughs are a product of Fox News giving the other candidates (primarily Guiliani) the majority of the tickets.

Fill a hall with Guiliani supporters and try and talk about peace and reasoning. You'll draw the boo-birds guaranteed.

not true at all, as long as there are ron paul supporters, theres plenty to laugh at!

in all seriousness, I agree with the op in that russert and his sidekick tanto did a fairly good job, and I have to say that romney did a pretty good job of coming off sounding like he knew what the hell he was talking about, I'm still on the fence about this guy, he needs to show me a bit more.

Romney did a good job but he did have two things going for him: 1)The other candidates did not gang up on him 2) He got much more time to speak than anybody else.

MSNBC supports Mitt?? hmmmm...

The debate was really well run aside from the fact that the time wasn't spread out among the candidates evenly at all. Even fox news is good about that now.

Total Times
Romney: 21:11, during 13 times
McCain: 16:00, during 13 times
Giuliani: 13:50, during 11 times
Huckabee: 12:11, during nine times
Paul: 6:31, during six times

Other than that it was a good format.

Also you gotta like Ron Paul's question for McCain. He completely had McCain off guard, I think he had no idea what Paul was talking about, but then again neither did anyone else so it wasn't that effective.

edit: matt23s vid lol

Yea, there where tons of other questions RP could have asked him that would have damaged McCain and been on the same page with the audience.

otherwise RP still made him look like an idiot.

McCain's response: Sunshine is good

I really give props to NBC for being wise and fair by realizing that the self seated 'supporters' applauses and boos can effect someones decision.

Compare the debates audiences reactions during a presidential election to oh say 20 years ago.. . They were observant and didn't flip out after every hair-brain schpeil, like anyone normal person would who is actually listening. Those idiots are contributing to nothing but only adding elements of manipulation and mind pollution to the mainstream.

blah... i'm ranting but I really hate this crap

Most likely somebody telling Russert to clarify the question. Russert's always into trying to ask gotcha questions.
