This may be old and if it is I'll delete the thread. If not discuss.

Osama Bin Laden is a person that is just as powerful dead as he is alive.

BFD! Even if Osama was alive, WTF is there to fear?

It's entertaining, the amount of scared people in this country, but really, why?
If someone really wanted to **** up this country, it would have already been done.
And you can't use 9/11, because we where a screwed up nation before that!

Osama Bin Laden should be pursued and brought to justice for his crimes, and I'd rather hear of his capture than death. The pursuit of Osama Bin Laden should be the only thing we are doing militarily in the Middle East right now, or the whole world for that matter.

Unless his body is found his death doesn't mean a thing.

I almost think the neo-conservatives would rather us not known whether he is dead.

Precisely. They want this war to go on as long as it can.

Someone else would take his place in a heart beat, only piss the fighters off more. (Not saying he shouldn't be taken down for fear of adding fuel to the fire.) Honestly, I couldn't give a **** less if he is made a martyr. He will be glorified by his followers no matter what happens, why not have one less piece of **** on this planet?

Osama Bin Laden is not a threat. But he is a fugitive responsible for the largest terrorist attack on American soil. He needs to be brought to justice. Rebuilding nations =/= bringing those responsible for 911 to justice.

Figures like Osama tend to become symbols for the cause after their death. Symbols are eternal and therefore he may be even more powerful in death than in life.

Why? Let's see.
1. We're the only "hyperpower" left in the world.
2. China is arising a massive military.
3. Russia's recently invested a significant amount in developing the Mig 35 and some other plane that I forgot the name of.
4. Europe's considering forming it's own defense force that could turn against American interests, despite the cooperation at present.
5. Osama's (and the War on Terror is) preoccupying American media, American troops, etc...

You're absolutely right that we were a screwed up nation before that. I mean, nobody brought the planners of the USS Cole bombing to justice or the various embassies worldwide before that, or the first WTC attack to justice, either.

IMHO now that we're in Iraq we should stay there so that Baghdad doesn't become (to paraphrase Petraeus) another Darfur.
Other than that, though, we should be constantly gearing up and thinking ahead for any future conflict. Kuwait could have been avoided eighteen years ago...

The US has had fewer deaths in the War on Terror than it would if the murder rate of DC were applied to the size of Iraq's population and the sole target were American GI's...
