Fred Thompson is out!

Yep, he's done. I remember over the summer seeing him so high up in the polls before he even officially entered the race, and now he can't get any support at all.

What a shame, he was clearly the best candidate for the GOP. He just entered too late and nobody knew who he was.

That's pretty much the case with Ron Paul however he did enter the race almost a year ago.

This isn't good news for Ron Paul.

Why's that? He will surely get some of the FT supporters out there, and it narrows the field to make him seem like a more legitimate candidate. How is it going to hurt him?

Well our best shot would be to have a brokered convention. Aside from that, he was also there to split the vote between the pro war candidates. We will pick up some FT supporters, probably more than if Giulianni dropped out, but ultimately foreign policy is probably the toughest thing for a person to compromise their views on.

Ha. . . .

Ron Paul's whole campaign is based on inflation and how we need to stop printing money. That will solve all our problems in his eyes.

Wrong, his whole campaign isn't just based on one issue. If you actually did research on him and would stop brushing him off because the major media outlets don't like him you might end up supporting him.

doubtful as thompson will likely endorse his friend mccain, and in all honesty, paul should follow suit and exit as well, stop wasting peoples money on a losing campaign

In a democracy, which you support we fight for all over the world, don't we need opposing viewpoints represented in elections?

Nah man, you know only "winning" viewpoints are allowed. Breaking the status quo means nothing.

Also, I missed the massive irony in "wasting people's money".

Just because Fred Thompson will endorse Mccain, does not mean that every one of his supporters will as well. Ron Paul will surely pick up a few. Every little bit helps in getting the message out.

The fact that Ron Paul outlasted Duncan Hunter, Tom Tomcredo, Fred Thompson, and most likely Rudy Giuliani (and possibly Mike Huckabee-his funds are drying up and he is not winning any elections) Ron Paul will look more like a serious candidate to the MSM and average American voter.

You have to give him and his supporters credit for sticking it out as long as we have.

I've heard that Thompson might look into being a running mate, any truth to this?

I don't see any of the current candidates (including McCain) choosing Thompson as a VP. I suspect the VP candidate will be someone chosen outside the box so to speak, someone like Gingrich perhaps?
